Developer Paradox has detailed the Stellaris 3.7.4 patch, which is now live and brings long-awaited changes and improvements to the big space strategy following the release of the Stellaris First Contact DLC earlier this month. Among the changes are big changes to one of the origins added with the DLC, garbage collection, and the possibility of civilizations having a daunting challenge when nuclear war threatens to break out.
The Salvage Source is one of three introduced in the expansion, and you start on a planet that has successfully held back the efforts of a hostile empire, though it’s still waiting for you there. The new update changes several aspects of this source to correct the behavior of collectors and MSIs, and should smoothen the source a bit. MSI is also getting additional naval capabilities and new startup tech, making them a bit stronger overall.
Now, there is a chance that civilizations that existed before FTl will face a “closed challenge” when the threat of nuclear war is imminent. Starbase Reactors are getting a nice 15% power boost, which should help upgraded Citadels use more weapon slots. Meanwhile, Hive Minds that have astronomers and cordyceptive drones now start with three reanimated amoebas.
There’s also a fairly large set of bug fixes, such as the “Starbase Sabotage” option not actually destroying components and the Solarpunk company remaining neutral after being attacked. Unemployment living standard-based happiness penalties will no longer apply, which will now be determined by employment levels. The AI will now also correctly create clone pools to keep their colonies alive if they control a clone army, which is probably for the best.
