When Starfield’s release date is finally revealed, you’ll probably be wondering exactly what to watch, read, and listen to before the release of Bethesda’s latest RPG. There’s a whole universe of space content out there, so it’s easy to get recommendations before Starfield, which is why Bethesda’s design director told you beforehand what to look for.
While you wait, you might as well play games like Starfield, but Bethesda Design Director Emil Pagliarulo has some suggestions: space is a big genre, so a lot influenced Team Skyrim’s next game.
“People have asked me what other movies besides Prospect have a Starfield vibe,” Pagliarulo said. “I feel like I can’t specifically answer this question without going into spoiler/disclosure territory, and I can’t and I won’t.”
If you haven’t seen the perspective yet, this is a 2018 sci-fi movie starring TV’s greatest dad, Pedro Pascal, and after watching the trailer I can see pretty clearly how Bethesda was inspired by the aesthetic.
“We already said that you can infiltrate the Crimson Fleet as a space policeman and report it to your superiors, so maybe take a look… Donnie Brasco?” Pagliarulo jokingly adds.
“But seriously, I don’t think there’s a sci-fi movie or TV show that hasn’t inspired a lot of Starfield developers, from Space: 1999 to Cowboy Bebop to Event Horizon to Silent Running. This is outer space, after all: there’s a place for everything.
So there’s plenty you can check out ahead of the Starfield Game Pass release date, and Pagliarulo has dropped some utterly classic space genre recommendations (Cowboy Bebop fans are ramping up) ahead of its release later this year.
