Some of the best mods for Skyrim haven’t been polished in Bethesda’s twelve-year-old RPG, but now an ambitious new project aims to modernize what you see most in the world while you play. So this mod can bring a whole new feeling to the game of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
While it can be easy to forget, your character’s first-person animations are something you see almost all the time and are crucial to the experience. Your initial reaction may be to dismiss its importance, but in doing so, you have effectively proved your point; after all, waving your character’s hand is literally your main interaction with the world and people of Skyrim.
The Comprehensive First-Person Animation Overhaul mod for Skyrim, or CFPAO for short, comes from the creator of PolarRobotFrog, who says the project includes “thousands (yes, I checked, actually thousands) of first-person animations” to replace those of the original game They explain: “This mod replaces almost all first-person animations and even adds some unique ones depending on the weapon or school of magic you’re using.”
This means that whether you prefer sword and shield, dual battle axes, or any range of magic from the different schools of restoration, destruction, sorcery, alteration, and illusion, CFPAO will fine-tune your experience from the modern point of view. There are even new animations for the Khajiit characters who enjoy using their unarmed combat abilities.
PolarRobotFrog notes that there are a few key exceptions. For example, they didn’t change the animation that is used when hiding because they say “it had a lot of bugs and I don’t know why it didn’t work” so no change there. They also left only the shield lock and hit animations because “I couldn’t really think of any other way to animate the shield than to go vanilla.”
Fortunately, they list all the known issues and their current plans for the project, along with an installation guide that can be found on the mod’s page. They also recommend other mods as good companions for CFPAO, such as the Ersh’s Precision mod for more accurate melee collision detection and Skyrim Valhalla’s combat overhaul dTry, which aims to modernize the feel of melee online with games. newer ones like Assassin’s. Believe Valhalla and the god of war.

It might not be as big of a difference as turning the Dark Brotherhood questline into a Skyrim Hitman sim or opening a skeletal pizzeria in Skyrim, but CPAO looks like one of those mods that could be easy prey for anyone who wants the best. . Skyrim experience, regardless of your other gaming preferences.
