Riot Games invites us to take a look at Milio’s new League of Legends champion The Gentle Flame, dive into the backstory of the upcoming LoL character, and add a stunning orchestral theme to welcome him to the MOBA game. A youth of Ixtal who transforms the normally destructive energy of fire into healing powers, Milio weaves adorable and fiery friends to help support his allies in battle.
Growing up under the tutelage of his grandmother Lupe, who was “exiled to the remotest corners of Ixtal” after her twin sister Lune was caught plotting against Yun Tal, Milio displayed a great affinity for the elements but struggled with the rules and discipline, which resulted in Lupe abandoning her teachings.
Milio, however, decided to pursue his education on his own. He pushed those limitations aside and studied nature to master the one axiom his grandmother refused to teach him: fire, an element his sister Moon mastered. However, Milio wondered why fire had always been considered such a destructive force, and after encountering an injured hunter in the village, he found the answer.
“As he placed his hands on the hunter’s stomach, he felt a glow of warmth…his inner flame. Milio then began to feel the same flame within himself. Focusing all of his energy on this feeling, he used what nature had taught him to manifest this fire. A creature appeared, small and shy, with large friendly eyes. These fiery creatures, which Milio calls his “calming fire”, seem to be the basis of how he will play in the game.
So as the Champion of LoL, it seems likely that Milio will use these fiery spirits, summoning them to his side to heal and benefit his allies. Looking at some of the concept art for him, it’s possible that he also has ways to use fire in a more classic destructive ability, but for now it looks like we can expect him to be mostly support oriented. Along with the story reveal, Riot also released Milio’s theme, and it’s insanely good.
Milio’s theme, The Gentle Flame, is an absolutely stunning orchestral score that perfectly encapsulates the wonder of an inquisitive young man making his way through the woods, chasing fireflies and gleefully creating spirits of fire. The video also shows concept art of him creating and playing with these fiery spirits, which he appears to be holding in a large bag on his back.
This art also hints at Milio’s possible abilities, showing him placing a sprite on Teemo as a shield, as well as throwing fire darts at his enemies. Inside his backpack is also a big and adorable pixie. We’ll be sure to tell you more about Milio as soon as we have him, but for now, one thing is for sure: I love this boy and he needs to be protected at all costs.
