Diablo 4 finds glimmers of hope amid poisonous swamps and ritual fires

Diablo 4’s campaign is designed to take players across a variety of desolate and dangerous lands, encountering everything from poisonous swamps and shorelines teeming with the undead to draconian religions with a penchant for ritual burning. But since Blizzard is taking a deeper look at the five regions you’ll explore in an RPG ahead of the Diablo 4 beta, they want players to have something worth fighting for.

There are five key regions that you will explore as you traverse through Sanctuary in your battle with Lilith. These are the arid deserts of Kehjistan, the rolling highlands of Skosglen, the dark swamps of Havezar, the icy peaks and dry steppes, the grasslands filled with rocky cliffs and lava flows. However, Blizzard says that it doesn’t want the zones to feel like one-note biomes, so they are more varied than previous entries.

Speaking with Game Informer, several senior Blizzard designers shared what we can expect from each region. Kehjistan, for example, takes inspiration from the Middle East and the Mojave Desert, but players will also see players marking its capital, Kaldeum, a location that will be familiar to Diablo 3 fans where it was the main hub. You’ll also find yourself facing off against truth cultists, marking the first appearance of a long-established faction in the game.

Scosglen is inspired by the Scottish Highlands, and you’ll explore many coastlines littered with the undead who have disappeared into the sea, culminating in a gigantic creature called the Sea Witch. Quest creator Madeleine James says this queen-like figure is “three times the size of all the other drowned ones, and it’s just a bloated mass of body parts, so it’s a lot of fun.”

There’s more to Skosglen than just the coast, though: it’s also home to a Druid College, and you’ll see a story tied to one of Diablo 4’s strengths: one of the new cooperative activities that offers a great way to earn gear. and help rebuild civilization in areas captured in the past. You’ll also be able to revisit the hidden swamps from Diablo 3, though they’ve since been (somewhat ominously) renamed blood swamps.

Havezar gives us those delicious poisonous swamps we all crave, which Blizzard says come from a mix of Florida and Europe. You will have to fight serpentine enemies called Nangari alongside soldiers of the Holy Order of Zakarum, the latter of whom live in battered forts that sink into the soft earth on which they were built. Looks great.

The Cathedral of Light is your main objective in Broken Peaks. This tough religious authority loves to burn sinners: “It’s completely normal and normal for them,” says game designer Harrison Pink. It’s not just the cold weather though: melting snow in the lower regions forms waterfalls that flow into the Havezar marshes. You’ll also need to make a pilgrimage to the Alabaster Monastery, a heavily guarded fort in the mountains, while fending off the series’ familiar Khazr goats.

The Dry Steppes may not have the most memorable name, but this Yellowstone National Park-inspired geothermal hotspot features everything from sandy beaches, mudflats, and rocky cliffs to lava flows and colorful geothermal pools. . Art director John Mueller adds that people searched deep into the apartments and suggests this may not have been a particularly smart course of action.

Diablo 4 Dry Steppes - the character finds himself on the reddish-white land of vast salt marshes.

While it all sounds pretty bleak, with Pink saying “It can be so easy to fall into that dark, disastrous hole of darkness,” the team wants to highlight “some glimmers of life, some glimmers of hope, and characters that are really close to your heart.” . .” Oh.” After all, why would you go out of your way to save Sanctuary when it’s already collapsing? Isn’t the allure of Lilith’s power attractive enough already? “Giving them real sparks of humanity is very important to us as team,” concludes Rose.

Game director Joe Shelley has previously hinted that Diablo 4’s campaign will likely last around 35 hours, though that’s just the beginning of your adventure, of course. You’ll travel through a story that takes you through many regions, but Blizzard notes that the side quests are mostly limited to individual areas. Diablo General Manager Rod Fergusson adds that players can choose what order to play in Diablo 4’s campaign.

Make sure you’re ready for the beta by checking out the Diablo 4 system requirements and reviewing all the classes in Diablo 4 ahead of the Diablo 4 release date. Fortunately, it seems Diablo 4’s damage numbers have dropped in comparison. with those of its predecessor. caps
