Notable German fan club “Roaring Bears” created an officially registered organization to expand support for the esports club Berlin International Gaming. The German fan club and BIG met in Berlin to issue a joint statement in support of a positive, diverse and tolerant esports fan culture.
With the entry into the register of the Berlin Association, the Roaring Bears have reached an important milestone in the history of the BIG and the fan club. In the future, Roaring Bears will play an important role in organizing fan events in Germany and Europe, and BIG will support them in these initiatives as a loyal partner.
Steffen Urmonite, president of Roaring Bears, said: “This statement comes from the essence of what we stand for. We want an esport that symbolizes equality, openness and respect, values that we represent both online and offline. Despite the rivalry and ranting on social media, our goal is to create a fan culture in esports that moves away from violence, negativity and alienation. Today, together with BIG, we have achieved this goal.
What started as an idea in 2019, we now want to take it to the next level. As a registered association, we want to work even harder for the sport and its public acceptance. As far as we know, no group of eSports fans has yet taken this path. With e.V. we want to bring fans together and create a unique experience with them.
We look forward to the next few weeks and months and thank BIG for their support in this process.”
The Roaring Bears will function as a standalone and independent organization, but will maintain a positive and tolerant fan culture and stand against all forms of hate, racism and discrimination. BIG will establish a fan relations department through which it will support the development of the Roaring Bears and the organization’s other fan clubs. Both parties will meet face to face every six months for mutual feedback and planning.
