son of the forest mutants – are basically scary creatures trying to kill you in a survival horror game, as if being out in the wild isn’t hard enough already. It’s worth noting that some of these mutants can be friendly, and we’ll cover those in this list as well. However, be careful who you trust.
The upcoming survival game follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, The Forest, with the same creepy cannibals and mutants threatening your life once you’re stranded on an unknown island. However, there are several different mutants in Sons of the Forest, including one made up almost entirely of fingers. Before you dive into Sons of the Forest multiplayer with your friends, make sure you live long enough to explore the vast Sons of the Forest map by meeting all the mutants and cannibals in Sons of the Forest.
Here are all the Sons of the Forest mutants we know of so far:
- cannibals
- Fingers
- Giant
- John 2.0
- mutant babies
- lazy
- Twins
- Virginia
cannibals
The classic enemy of The Forest, the cannibals are pretty much the same as you remember them. Naked, dangerous, wild people, probably once survived here themselves or their descendants – cannibals. If they are like their predecessors, they will come to you quite early in the game. Cannibals like to keep their distance first before attacking, perhaps even dragging you into their caves if you are knocked unconscious.
Sons of the Forest also features masked cannibals who appear to be less savage and more mentally healthy than other cannibals, possibly being the leaders of a subset of cannibals.
Fingers
Fingers is the confirmed name of one of the mutants from the third trailer and can be seen in the image above. We don’t know what evolutionary reason might be behind the finger mutation, but he has, well, a lot of fingers. Faceless, but with many fingers. No boobs, but lots of fingers. No hands… well, you get the idea. You might think it would make Fingers pretty light, but we’re sure he could hit harder than expected. In any case, ending up in the dark caves of Sons of the Forest is a pretty scary surprise.
Giant
We still don’t know if “Giant” is the official name for this mutant, but for now it’s a good placeholder. The giant can be seen at the beginning of the first trailer shortly after the helicopter crash, when a terrifyingly large hand slips through the trees and steals his co-worker, killing him in the distance shortly after. What we don’t know is if this Giant is made up of the whole body or just one hand. It is assumed that the giant can be called a “launcher” or “catapult”, and it is because of him that the cannibal somehow hits the helicopter from him.
John 2.0
If you’ve played Forest, you might recognize John’s name. The name was, um, affectionately(?) given to the worm, a series of small slug-like mutants gathered together in a worm formation. Thankfully, John 2.0 doesn’t look like John at all, but he’s still pretty gruesome, basically consisting of two cannibals linked at the legs, able to walk on their hands while forming a cute worm-like figure.
mutant babies
The mutant babies were also in the forest and they attacked you while you were screaming. In Sons of the Forest, we don’t know if they look the same, as we only saw them in the third trailer, when you can see Sluggy throwing babies at you like an attack. These babies seem to be doing nothing, each one lying lifeless on the ground after being abandoned.
lazy
Sluggy is a creepy mutant who uses babies as projectiles and throws them at you in self-defense. It is unknown what else this large and stocky mutant does.
Twins
Again, only briefly teased in the trailers, we know that the Twins resemble John in that they’re conjoined cannibals, only this time they’re joined at the hip. The twins crawl on their hands and can even climb walls.
Virginia
Virginia is the only mutant on this list that you can befriend without getting hurt. She has the same name and multi-legged appearance as the Virginia mutants from the first game, but she does not appear to be the same character as she has a more mature face and appearance. She’s a real NPC that you can befriend, scare, or just ignore, and she can even be seen fighting alongside you in a few shots of the trailer.
These are all of the Sons of the Forest mutants and cannibals we’re still aware of, but as we get closer to the Sons of the Forest release date, new ones are bound to come off the tree. As that date approaches, make sure you can run the survival horror game by checking the Sons of the Forest system requirements and make sure you are fully prepared to survive in the deadly forest.
