Riot Games may release new League of Legends champions at a slower pace in the future, as the Valorant and League of Legends developer plans to change LoL’s update schedule to focus more on older champions and MOBA modes. This news comes after League of Legends champion prices changed midway through LoL Season 13.
LoL’s new champion, K’Sante, launched in November 2022, after a busy year for the MOBA that also included Zeri, Renata, Neela, and Belvet, along with the highly-anticipated redesign of Udyr. The next champion of League of Legends will be Milio, a small boy with fire powers that serves as a support and healer. They are expected to appear as part of Season 13 in early 2023.
However, it’s less likely that we’ll see new League of Legends champions in the future, as Riot says it’s changing its update plans to focus more on modding existing champions and game modes.
“We are increasing the number of updates for older champions and game modes, which may delay the release of new champions,” Riot said in an official statement. While this certainly won’t affect Milio’s release, it could mean that five or six new champions per year are a thing of the past.
The announcement came as Riot also announced a price review for League of Legends champions. The cost of new champions will now be based on the number of seasons available, rather than the number of champions released since their introduction. Hopefully this will open up the roster for new players and also give you a bit more variety while you wait for new characters to join the roster.
