Does return work on Steam Deck? Valve’s Pocket PC is particularly well suited for roguelike games, allowing you to continue your current run or start another (or maybe thirty) on the go. So on paper the Returnal seems like a perfect fit for a portable power station, but in reality, unfortunately, that’s not the case.
Since Returnal’s install size is 60 GB, some of you will need one of the better Steam Deck SD cards to install the game on the base model. Other than that, the micromachine mostly meets Returnal’s system requirements, but its GPU is still a weak spot.
Is Steam Deck Returnal compatible?
Yes, you can play Returnal on Steam Deck. However, neither Valve nor the game’s developers have indicated if it will be considered playable or if it will receive a full verified certificate.
Based on our tests, the best feedback setting for the Steam Deck is basically a combination of the “Low” gaming preset with FSR in “Performance” mode. Even with these notable compromises in image quality, we highly recommend using the 30fps cap for more consistent frame rates and better battery life.
Future fixes may help Returnal work better on the Steam Deck. It’s not a great experience right now and we don’t recommend playing it on one system. However, we must not give up hope that things will change as it will make an amazing addition to any portable library.
