According to a recent dev blog, loot in Warhammer 40k Darktide should soon be easier to put into your icky denial gauntlets. The developers of the sci-fi co-op game say they’re working on several changes to the core system through which players get new gear, and while some of the changes are pretty significant, players are still concerned about items that largely measure remain intact.
But first some good news. The Darktide devs say they’ve heard loud and clear criticism of item-dropping, and are taking some steps to make the whole process less frustrating. Either way, players in Darktide acquire new items from various sources: there’s the Armory Exchange, where players can spend receipts earned from completing quests to buy a rotating set of gear and trinkets; there’s the Emperor’s Gift, which adds an item to end-of-quest rewards when certain conditions are met; and there’s Ser Melk’s Props, where players can complete additional challenge contracts for special rewards.
According to Fatshark, each of these gear sources will see significant changes with the upcoming Darktide patch. At the Armory Exchange, you will be able to purchase unholy versions of any type of weapon allowed at your current level. Item selection per hour will also be improved, with higher base item ratings and increased upgrade potential.
The Emperor’s Gift will be awarded at the end of each quest, rather than from time to time, based on the results. However, quest performance will still matter and you will get items with higher potential to complete quests at higher difficulty levels and in less time.
Ser Melk’s prop contracts require less work and you will earn more bars for each completed contract. Fatshark says that they are also in the process of consolidating the Darktide Collection and Grimoire Contracts into one contract, as well as making some additional changes.
However, it is the crafting system found in the Temple of the Omnissiah that has players complaining. Fatshark’s post indicates that this will not change the controversial element of perk refinement and re-blessing, which allows players to recast one of a weapon’s buffs or buffs while keeping the other permanently.
This means that while players can trade an unwanted buff and boon for a weapon they like, they will still be subject to another buff or boon whether they like it or not. The argument is that at higher levels this still means shoddy gear and doing a mission without fully optimized gear is unacceptable.
Overall though, the changes Fatshark outlined should allow players to earn gear faster and more often, which means a greater chance of finding or creating a combination of perks they can work with while having a reason to test. new benefits. and blessings they might otherwise ignore.
Fatshark says that it will continue to monitor player feedback after the next patch and make further changes as needed.
