Destiny 2 is set to welcome Wrath of the Machine this summer

This summer, Destiny 2 will likely see a backlash against the Wrath of the Machine raid, as Destiny 2 game director Joe Blackburn confirms that players can expect the classic raid to return in the year of Lightfall. In a lengthy blog post detailing the year after Destiny 2 Lightfall’s release date, Blackburn confirms that Bungie will be repeating another Destiny Raid in an FPS game during Season 22, titled Season of the Deep, which launches today, scheduled by the end of August.

He mentions a new raid coming up, referencing the Fireteam Finder/Looking for Group experience previously shown during the pre-Lightfall event.

“Originally, we were hoping to get a top-tier Raid Finder this summer in Season 22 with our upcoming Rework Raid, which would be the perfect match for new raiders,” says Blackburn. “But as our plans became more robust, we realized that the functionality needed to build a truly top-tier LFG would take a bit longer. So while the new raid will still launch this summer, we’re moving Fireteam Search into our final season of the year with a new dungeon.

While Blackburn doesn’t directly say that Wrath of the Machine is a new raid, Bungie has previously hinted that the game is unlikely to see a remake of Crota’s End in response to an interview question about the new 2022 raid, which It turned out to be Destiny 2’s King’s Fall raid.

“We know we want the fireworks back. So it’s really about the difficulty of moving raids from D1 to D2,” Blackburn told PC Gamer. “I think saying it’s going to be one of the big busts would take that out of the equation. So it becomes: “Hey, we do [new] one raid, two dungeons, and a repeat of this year’s old raid… How can we pick a raid that won’t sink a ship? And make it as amazing as the cover of the Vault of Glass.”

Also, Bungie’s community manager previously suggested the possibility of turning Crota’s End into a dungeon. Many players agree that it didn’t quite measure up to other raids from the original Destiny, including King’s Fall and Vault of Glass, which Bungie has iterated on before.

Blackburn also discussed the game’s difficulty changes, Vanguard Ops content updates, and more in an extensive blog post.
