Patch 10.0.7 for WoW Dragonflight gives us a preview of some of the features coming to Azeroth soon, including a long-awaited way to clear chat. While Blizzard’s game is undoubtedly one of the best MMORPGs on PC despite its many ups and downs over the years, there is one area where World of Warcraft has traditionally lagged behind competitors like Final Fantasy XIV. by Square Enix.

If you’ve ever spent any time, even in World of Warcraft, you’ve probably heard of “Stephen Chat,” a colloquial term for the unfiltered nightmare of players expressing their collective thoughts, arguments, and general trolling in a chat window. shared chat. discussion. It is named after the Barrens, a large low-lying area that was once the center of this noise. While trolls now mostly move around in trade chat to provoke their arguments, there’s no doubt that WoW is still full of problem gamers fighting each other.

Perhaps more directly frustrating is dungeons and raid chat, which is equally notorious for its cutthroat and often confrontational nature. The trend for many WoW players to finally experience FFXIV in recent years has been marked, perhaps more than anything else, by surprise at just how friendly and supportive the community at large is compared to mainstream WoW players. The MMO Blizzard is notorious for players insulting you at the first sight of a bug or poor build before unceremoniously kicking you out of the dungeon.

While I want to make grand assumptions about the general themes of Final Fantasy XIV that encourage friendship and support, the most important factor in the development of this friendly community has been the consistent enforcement and moderation of the rules limiting rudeness. players. another in the chat. World of Warcraft, by comparison, has felt pretty flimsy for a long time in this regard, but now Blizzard is giving players a new tool to help minimize the pain.

According to Wowhead, the WoW 10.0.7 PTR release includes a new social setting, as well as the existing all-or-nothing “mature language filter.” This new option is called “censorship messages” and includes an option that allows you to apply it to everyone, all players except your friends, everyone except your friends and guildmates, or none.

While there are currently no additional customization tools, as seen in the image above (via Wowhead), it appears that posts flagged as inappropriate will be hidden, allowing you to choose whether or not to see them. . You’ll be told where the post came from and that it’s “potentially inappropriate,” along with an option to view it if you’d like.

It’s kind of a temporary fix, but I’ll take what I can get. The ability to minimize spam of potentially problematic messages is a welcome change in the right direction. Hopefully, we’ll see some additional steps Blizzard takes to try to clean up their community and keep the conversation going as they look to win back fans once Dragonflight launches.

WoW Dragonflight 10.0.7 also includes a revamped WoW Paladin to help the class rediscover their identity in one of the best multiplayer games on PC. Meanwhile, the latest WoW Dragonflight patch notes from February 7 significantly change the classes of patch 10.0.5, adding improvements to a number of builds.
