With Immersive Stream for XR, users don’t need powerful hardware or a dedicated app to immerse themselves in 3D or augmented reality. With the help of a link or a QR code, they can be transported into augmented reality. Google Maps, for example, uses Immersive Stream for XR to enable “immersive browsing” functionality. Several brands are already using Immersive Stream for XR to improve consumer experiences, such as trying out new car setups and even viewing a piece of furniture in your home.
How Brands Use ISXR
A common type of experience that brands want to create is a space where users can walk and interact with objects. For example, construction companies may allow their customers to place appliances or furniture options in representations of their actual premises. Travel and hospitality companies may offer virtual tours of a hotel room or event venue, and museums may allow users to walk around and interact with virtual exhibits.
To help customers build these experiences faster, Google Cloud is partnering with Google Partner Innovation (PI) to create a space template, the first in a series of templates developed in close collaboration with customers through PI’s early access program. The space model standardizes common interactions in these scenarios, such as user movement and interaction with objects.
Aosom, a home and garden e-commerce retailer, recently used this model to launch an experience that allows users to place furniture in a virtual living room or in their own space using augmented reality. Users can customize the color and options of the product, and then add the products to the shopping cart when they are satisfied.
“Consumers in the home and garden industry are always looking for offerings that are unique and compatible with their own living space,” said Chunhua Wang, CEO of Aosom. “Google Cloud’s immersive augmented reality flow has enabled Aosom to provide visually vibrant and immersive shopping experiences for Google Cloud customers.”
Immersive Stream for XR is particularly useful for automakers, who can now allow potential customers to view and customize new vehicles with photorealistic details, as well as preview vehicles in their home garages. Recently, Kia Germany used this technology to promote the Kia Sportage, one of its best-selling vehicles. The virtual experience was made available via a QR code on the Kia website.
“At Kia Germany, we are excited to use Immersive Stream for XR to reach new consumers and provide them with the perfect experience to experience our Sportage,” said Jean-Philippe Pottier, Digital Platform Manager, Kia Germany. “Our users love the ability to change colors, mechanisms and interact with the model in 3D and augmented reality.”
Finally, with the addition of Unreal Engine 5.0 and support for larger, more realistic worlds, users can explore distant historical locations from the comfort of their homes. For example, virtual worlds uses photogrammetry techniques to capture historic sites, polish them to perfection with the help of a design team, and then create an interactive experience.
