Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 gaming laptop options take center stage and Gigabyte Aorus 17X listings have hit Amazon. While the graphics card’s best competitor is arguably the star of the show, the rest of its specs pack a punch, but its price will bring tears to your wallet.
It takes more than a high-end graphics card to make this the best gaming laptop, but the first Gigabyte RTX 4090 machine has a lot going for it under the hood. The portable powerhouse pairs Nvidia’s GeForce card with a 24-core Intel Core i9-13900HX processor, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a generous 2TB M.2 SSD that will store part of your Steam library. Completing this powerful package is a 17.3-inch, 240Hz, 1440p display that will help keep the GPU going, especially if you want to play top FPS games on the go.
Impressive, right? Well, new releases are more voracious than ever, and judging by Forspoken’s system requirements, you’ll need powerful PC specs to run a Square Enix RPG at 60fps. The same is true if you plan on using Dead Space Remake’s top settings, as our tests show that it even emphasizes the desktop RTX 4080.
Gigabyte’s unreliable specs naturally come with some caveats, especially when it comes to portability. To use the machine’s power supply away from your desk, you’ll have to lug around its 2.8kg chassis, and its 330W power supply isn’t fancy either. It’s also $3899, so if you don’t need portable, you could probably build a full RTX 4090 gaming PC for less.
The Aorus 17X will ship starting February 8, but Gigabyte currently has an “out of stock” sign on its Amazon listing (via Videocardz). This date is the official release date for RTX 4090 laptops across the board, and we’ll likely see other manufacturers like Asus, Alienware, Razer, and MSI appear soon.
Postpone something cheaper? Nvidia says the GeForce RTX 4070, 4060, and 4050 laptops will arrive on February 22, with budget models starting at $999. Slightly more expensive than RTX 3050 predecessors, but exclusive features like DLSS 3 may appeal to enthusiasts to spend a little more.
