Terraria’s crossplay has long been one of the most requested features for multiplayer, and the creator of one of the best sandbox games assures players that he’s been working on it while the team develops the update: the Terraria update 1.4.5. It also talks a bit about the team’s intent to get past the “final updates” jokes from the community and bring Terraria to an end, as developer Re-Logic hopes to “start a new game soon.”

Development of the next Terraria update began in early January after Terraria developers took a month off in December to wind down following the release of the massive Labor of Love update in September 2022. Updates and new features, this patch finally established parity between the different versions of Terraria for PC, consoles, and mobile, something the team has long said was a priority before crossplay could be considered.

Asked by a fan if cross-platform compatibility between versions is planned in the future, Re-Logic founder Andrew “Redigit” Spinks said, “It’s in the works.” This is a welcome update for fans looking to play with friends on other platforms after Re-Logic said in November that “planning for crossplay is well under way and we feel pretty good and confident about what we’ve accomplished in these discussions.” “.

So things are going well. Whitney “Sanks” Spinks, Vice President of Re-Logic Observations that “crossplay isn’t guaranteed, but we really want it to happen”, so keep your expectations in check about when it might happen, even if it seems like a high priority.

Redigit also confirms that after years of updates that were originally meant to be “final” before new ideas emerged, Terraria 1.4.5 is meant to be a smaller project that brings some unfinished business together. In response to a question about boss options, Redigit said, “That’s a great idea, but it’s going to take a lot of work. We’re trying to summarize the results so we can start a new game soon.

It’s still unclear exactly what will happen next, though there’s been a lot of talk about the idea for Terraria 2, with Redigit sharing a collage of hand-drawn concepts for the pre-Labor of Love sequel, which it called “Terriaria 2 concept art.” Meanwhile, Re-Logic reveals in its January State of Game Report that “we don’t have a lot of demo material right now” for patch 1.4.5, “but rest assured that when we do get spoilers, we will . ” . You know we can’t help it!

Whatever happens, it’s been an incredible decade for Re-Logic, with the studio enjoying incredible success as Terraria’s sales reflect years of great support. Cenx recently shared a photo from a decade ago from a “race that will change Terraria forever” when she and Redigit beat Terraria together for the first time while inside an icy ride to Minneapolis. “Shortly after completing our tutorial, we started developing [Terraria update] 1.2 and the snow biome”, Cenx explain – And we are here today.
