Hi-Fi Rush and Forspoken released last week, and while adventure games may have somewhat similar writing styles, the latest surprise release from Xbox and Tango Gameworks is the only of the two to appear among Steam’s best sellers. list.
Hi-Fi Rush has already crushed it on Steam despite launching PC Game Pass, but it seems Square Enix’s Forspoken, which released the same week, didn’t have quite the same level of success.
In a breakdown of SteamDB’s best sellers, new and upcoming releases like Hogwarts Legacy and Dead Space Remake take the top spot, while Hi-Fi Rush sits firmly at number eight out of ten at press time. This despite the release of Hi-Fi Rush Game Pass, and Forspoken is nowhere to be found.
However, this may not be entirely related to the content of each game, as Hi-Fi Rush is currently $29.99 / £26.99 while Forspoken is $69.99 / £64.99. While it would be absurd to say that potential Forspoken buyers went straight to Hi-Fi Rush because of its price, it should be noted that Hi-Fi Rush’s price makes it more attractive than a full AAA game. Note that this doesn’t mean more players will automatically buy it, but it does play a role.
This success of Hi-Fi Rush is also due to another thing I can’t stop talking about: it launched on the first day of Game Pass. It would literally be cheaper to buy a month’s Game Pass and play Hi-Fi Rush than to get it on Steam. Of course, you won’t own the game if you play it via Game Pass, but it’s still an interesting fact when you look at the digital version.
