Lost Ark “royal slap” reset bug offset

If you’ve been experiencing the Lost Ark reset bug affecting a lot of players for the past few weeks, there’s good news as developer Smilegate announces a compensation package for everyone affected. However, the content of the package and some restrictions on how it can be obtained did not impress many MMORPG fans.

The issue first came to light in late December when some players noticed that their characters were unable to access certain activities and that the daily or weekly reset did not seem to work properly. This can make a big difference to late-game progression, as it affects events like raids and Adventure Island, which provide key upgrade materials and resources.

In most cases, the issue occurs because players get disconnected during events like Guardian raids, at which point the character in question encounters the bug. Players reported issues such as their daily quests not resetting, fortress action energy not regenerating, raid rewards like the Brelshaza raid and Kakul Saidon raid, as well as weekly coins, gates of chaos, guards, etc.

Smilegate states on the official forums that players can expect a compensation package with a base offer for all affected players. It also notes that “due to the fact that this issue has affected every player differently, we will investigate each account individually and issue reset tickets based on individual circumstances and missing content.” The base salary is as follows:

  • Guardian Raid Bonus Ticket x21
  • One’s Task +1 x21
  • Basic Vitality Potion x60
  • Strength Energy (P) x150
  • Crystal aura for 30 days

The post also notes that weekly reset tickets will be sent one per maintenance window to prevent players from being inundated with tickets with a seven-day use limit. Players can receive rewards through Universal Game Storage. On top of that, you can only claim the reward until February 28, and you have to do it for the main character on your Lost Ark roster.

While it’s good to see the issue resolved, many affected players are expressing frustration with the details. One of the users who originally reported the bug claims that only half of what was lost is actually covered by the compensation package, and additional reset tickets are unlikely to make up the difference.

On top of that, the tickets mean that players who lost potential farming will now have to face them in the coming weeks instead of Smilegate just handing out the lost rewards. “They really want you to work for it, not freebies,” exclaims one concerned player, calling the package “a real slap in the face, to be honest.”

Others point out that the decision to limit it to the main character on your list makes no sense. “My protagonist doesn’t need those tickets because he has enough horns to craft all six of Brelshaza’s,” one commenter notes, “It’s my level 1500 character who’s been stuck unable to Brelshaza for five weeks, and he wants those tickets! He’s not my main character!”

Until compensation is made on a case-by-case basis, it’s impossible to know exactly how this case will be closed, but it’s certainly understandable that players would be disappointed that a character would lose so much progress, just because they’re being asked to submit additional work to recover the lost time. This comes just weeks after Smilegate and Amazon Games had to reverse a wave of Lost Ark bans on Steam that left many players inactive with flags on their Steam accounts.
