It’s no secret that Microsoft struggled to release the first installments in 2022, so even the Xbox official knows that Bethesda’s upcoming games Starfield and Redfall are key to the success of the platform and PC Gamepass. While we don’t have a firm release date for Starfield yet, the RPG will be vital to Microsoft, Xbox, and Game Pass support when it launches later this year.
With the Starfield reveal drawing closer and Redfall’s release date finally confirmed, 2023 is going to be a big year for PC Game Pass. It’s something Xbox CEO Phil Spencer is intimately aware of, as he wants to make sure 2023 is the best year for Xbox across all of its ecosystems, including PC.
“Redfall and Starfield are really big games, every game we make is first person,” Spencer told IGN. “In terms of Game Pass growth, it’s been strong. And as we add new games and game sequels, we see steady growth.
With the release of Starfield Game Pass confirmed (although an exact release date is not known), Bethesda as a developer and publisher will be instrumental in Microsoft’s success in 2023. Indeed, Tango Gameworks’ recent surprise release of Hi-Fi Rush on Steam and Game Pass has already paid off.
“I’m really excited about the power that Bethesda will bring to our portfolio and we’re starting to see it in 2023, which is exciting,” adds Spencer.
However, Spencer is certainly aware of how mediocre Xbox will be in 2022 and how this month’s Developer Direct has served the team to show that this year will be different.
“The commitment that we make to our customers and that we continue to deliver great games is something that I take seriously, that teams take seriously, and there were very few games in 2022,” Spencer says. “That’s why we’re excited to have a Developer Direct in 2023. I really liked the games we showed. And also knowing that Starfield is a game that we can turn into a standalone show and then start 2023 off with a good momentum. »
