As Forspoken reviews paint a confusing picture of the RPG that is dividing Square Enix, the developer has announced that a free PC demo is coming to Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store on January 24; Release date announced.

While PlayStation 5 players were already able to preview Frey’s adventure before launch, PC gamers were left speechless, confused, and concerned by Forspoken’s high system requirements.

Thankfully, Square Enix has (finally) come to the rescue with a free PC demo on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store on January 24.

Square Enix and Luminous Productions also released a free demo for PC today (via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store). [January 24]read an official blog post from Luminous Productions.

“In the PC demo, players will face off against a variety of enemies and test their combat skills with a vast arsenal of offensive and support magic that will prepare them for the high-octane action they could face in the full game. ”

Considering that Luminous Productions’ shiny new venture seems to have divided critics, the demo might be your best bet. The PS5 version of the game (no PC reviews yet) currently has an average Metacritic score of 63%, with scores ranging from 95% to 40%, quite a jump, huh?

While some criticized the overly testy lines, others found a subtle charm in its subtext, allowing them to immerse themselves in Atia’s mysterious world. It’s also a good chance to see if your gaming PC melts down, so there’s that too.

For me, as someone who really wants to play Forspoken, it’s the perfect compromise. Given the divergent reviews, trying out the demo before committing $69.99 / £64.99 makes a lot more sense.
