When Dragon Age 4 release date? Dragon Age 4 is real and in production at BioWare, we know that, but where will the story go next? And which of our favorite characters will return?
Bioware has just officially announced the title Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which seems to be on the list of best PC games and best RPGs. So far, we’ve had an enigmatic Dread Wolf trailer, hints for a possible multiplayer angle, and plenty of clues as to plot content thanks to various interviews and tweets with developers and writers who have worked on previous Dragon Age games. BioWare further teased Dire Wolf by saying, “Alone, Dire Wolf. Some say he could be an ancient elven god, but others say he’s not. Others say he’s a traitor to his people…or a savior who now try to save them at the cost of your peace.”
Dragon Age 4 Release Date Rumors
At the moment, the release date of Dragon Age 4 is unknown. BioWare said: “Although the game will not be released this year, we are getting closer to the next adventure.”
dragon age alone
In this very short teaser, we see Solas. He is an elven renegade cover mage who happens to be an expert in Shadow and was one of the companions in Dragon Age: Inquisition. We get a look at some of the locations of the upcoming Dragon Age adventure, as well as the layout of various monsters and classes. We were very intrigued by Solas’ description of the player character. “No magic hand, no ancient prophecy. You will never see a person like that.”

Dragon Age Rise of the Direwolf
The 2018 Game Awards gave us our first official introduction to Dragon Age 4 in the form of a short trailer titled The Dread Wolf Rises. The trailer features Solas, suggesting that the game will be set after Dragon Age Inquisition. We can also spot a lily idol that appears in Dragon Age II, though it’s impossible to draw any conclusions from that.
Development of Dragon Age 4
Sources within BioWare speculated that the game would be “live”, leading players to fear that Dragon Age could become a multiplayer game similar to Destiny. Casey Hudson, CEO of BioWare tweeted on these fears, emphasizing that the living elements will focus on continuing the story after the main narrative ends.
It has since been confirmed that Dragon Age 4 will not feature a multiplayer mode. According to the report, the success of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the failure of Anthem contributed to this decision, although BioWare previously refused to make the game single player.
While recent news on Dragon Age 4 development has been scant, thanks to Mark Darr’s tweet, fans were convinced that a fourth Dragon Age game was still in development. Darra explains that although the team is now working from home and “working from home is more difficult”, they are “moving on”.
I understand that most of you are here for the Dragon Age news, and there hasn’t been much of it lately…
Let me go back to some of the things I say:
1. We are working on the next Dragon Age
2. Yes, we work from home
3. Working from home is more difficult
4. We are making progress—Mark Darrah (@BioMarkDarrah) July 22, 2020
The plot of Dragon Age 4
The Gamescom 2020 show touched on some plot elements of the upcoming Dragon Age game. First of all, we will see new things and new places, as well as communicate with the people who live there. While this is far from groundbreaking, it definitely suggests that we’ll be exploring entirely new regions of Thedas in Dragon Age 4’s story.
In the same video, head writer Patrick Wicks explains that “for the game we’re working on right now, we want to tell a story about what happens when you don’t have the power.” and managers don’t want to solve problems. Again, this is all very vague, but it sounds like you won’t start the story as a powerful noble or a powerful wizard.
Although no specific details of Dragon Age 4’s story have been revealed, it is known that Alexis Kennedy, the founder of Failbetter Games, was involved in writing the game. In May 2017, he announced that we were working on a piece of BioWare history and lore. His script is said to be separate from the main story, but it is more substantial than the backstory. In short: expect characters with dialogue and backstory.
“If you’ve seen a lot of my work, you probably won’t be surprised by the choice of subject matter. It’s familiar stuff,” Kennedy told Eurogamer, suggesting that his section will likely have a haunting, Lovecraftian feel to it, or at least a focus on death or loss. Perhaps the action will take place in the Shadow, the demonic dimension of Dragon Age?
Also, all the plot details of Dragon Age 4 are purely speculative. After the success of Inquisition, it’s reasonable to assume that the next game could be a direct sequel rather than a largely standalone story set in the same universe as the series so far.
At the end of the Inquisition, the elf trickster Solas, who turned out to be the god of treachery Fen’Harel, disappeared, and the Intruder expansion ended with the Inquisitor swearing to hunt him down and stop his plan to destroy the world. It makes sense that in the sequel, Solas would play a key villain and stop his plans to usher in a new era for the elder elves.
The Dread Wolf Rises trailer offers some context for the new Dragon Age game as it introduces Solas and we can assume that the game will follow the events of Inquisition and its Trespasser DLC.
Dragon Age 4 Locations
EA Play 2020 may have shown cutscenes from Dragon Age 4’s all-new environments. The first of three cutscenes shows a large, creepy-looking tree covered in thick, slightly glowing growths in a snow-covered graveyard. The second is a stone arch surrounded by water, with bright red shoots protruding from the rock. The third scene shows more of those glowing tendrils growing out of the fortress, framing the ominous pulsating stone egg.
While all of these scenes are marked as “Work in Progress” and we shouldn’t expect to visit these exact locations on Dragon Age 4’s release day, they do at least serve to set the scene and give us an idea of what’s about to happen. – a dark and sinister world, burning with magical corruption.

Other scenes were shown at Gamescom 2020, mostly in the form of concept art, but some in-development environments were also shown.
The Behind the Scenes video really had a wide variety of environments and architecture types, with mountains, underwater areas, dark forests, and desert lands. Below you can see a gallery of some scenes.
Our favorites are the spearfishing scene, the view of the Venetian city, and the landscape full of floating rocks. The amount of concept art we’ve seen for the ocean areas suggests that in the next Dragon Age game, we might be heading to the Berian oceans. Of course, this is just concept art, so chances are we won’t see most of these places by the time Dragon Age 4 launches.
That’s all we know about Dragon Age 4 at the moment, but as soon as we know the Dragon Age 4 release date, we’ll let you know.
