Destiny 2 lore suggests that Rasputin, the Warmind AI that many believe is humanity’s only hope against the Witness and Xivu Arata in the popular FPS game, could sacrifice himself for what he considers to be humanity’s highest good.
Conceived by Clovis Bray and programmed as the most powerful weapon in the fight for humanity, Rasputin first made his decisions based on mathematical calculations and algorithms. However, from the hand of Ana Bray, he began to study concepts such as emotions, empathy and suffering.
The Destiny 2 Season 19 Persona series stories provide a timeline of his development that illustrates how his thinking has changed over time.
However, the attention of the players was drawn to the book of knowledge collected during the last mission of the game’s story. On the book’s lore card, it says the following:
Do not Cry.
When I get to black.
There is no pain and duty keeps the back straight.
I chose this life as a sacrifice.
And there is nothing to do.
As even shadows sink into darkness,
I wait for you under the sun.
I am finishing now.

The season finale dialogue also contains an audio clip of Rasputin thanking Ana. In one particularly poignant moment, he refers to the “time of our final arrangement”.

Rasputin’s intentions remain unclear. However, even if he sacrifices himself, there is still a chance that he will be resurrected as a Guardian.
This series has another lore card to unlock. And in the last few weeks of the season, there will probably be a special mission before the Destiny 2 Lightfall release date. This may give us more answers as we continue to invest in building the world of one of the best free PC games available.
