It looks like Windows 10 is headed for a software retirement house as Microsoft is about to stop selling licenses. Starting next year, you’ll only be able to buy the latest version of the operating system directly from the company, but it could help build the best gaming PCs for years to come.
It’s no secret that Microsoft wants you to install Windows 11, but 68% of PC users are still using Windows 10 tomb. However, while the end of issue 10 is clearly near, the first steps only concern those who don’t actually have a copy.
On the official Windows 10 download page, Microsoft announces that it will stop selling licenses for the operating system on January 31, 2023. In other words, no new copies of the software will be available after this year, but you may be able to get a physical key in nature. The page also says that the platform will be “supported” until October 14, 2025, so you won’t have to upgrade to Windows 11 to avoid security risks, viruses, and other suspicious shenanigans.
If you’re obsessed with not using the latest operating system, you might want to get Windows 10 while you can because Windows 7 and 8 are no longer supported. Microsoft says moving to Windows 11 is the “recommended path,” but it won’t be an option for everyone due to its strict TPM requirements.
Installing Windows 11 on your PC has its benefits, as DirectStroage and AutoHDR will help the best PC games shine. However, we think Steam Deck makes a great argument for using Linux, as SteamOS arguably has better drivers and features that are more gaming-friendly than Microsoft’s platform.
