Destiny 2 blue weapon gear will not drop after players hit soft cap

Blue Destiny 2 weapons and armor that indicate they are of “Rare” rarity instead of purple “Legendary” or yellow “Exotic” will no longer drop from players after reaching a certain threshold. The changes will start with next week’s Tuesday reset in the popular FPS game. In the future, once players cross the soft limit threshold, they will no longer get blues, but will instead receive a blink. Bungie will also be increasing Armorer’s reputation gain by 25% to account for the reputation gain the player would receive from dismantling Destiny 2’s blues.

Bungie announced the changes in its This Week at Bungie (TWAB) blog post.

Community members often ask for changes to this system, as blue weapons are much less powerful than their legendary or exotic counterparts. The blue team made sense early on in the multiplayer story, as it encouraged Guardians to seek out the more powerful purple and yellow ones. However, they began to lose their appeal as soon as Bungie focused on a plethora of highly effective legendary weapons and armor.

Players can sometimes use a high-level blue armor or weapon set to quickly fill up and increase the power level of a piece of gear. But the general consensus is that these weapons and armor don’t really matter in the context of the game, instead they can house red-bordered weapons to pick up patterns or engrams to focus on.

While there are powerful blue weapons in the game, players should still be able to acquire them from collections, as Bungie hasn’t specified any actions to get rid of blue entirely.

TWAB also announced additional changes that will be made ahead of Destiny 2 Lightfall’s release date. As of January 18, the game has increased the drop rate of weapons with a red border in raids with craftable weapons and in Duality Dungeon. Bungie has also sped up the process of earning the Dredgen title in Gambit matches, added Rumble as a permanent Crucible game mode, and adjusted the quest required to craft Exotic Glaives to make it easier.

It was also announced that the game’s next raid will be released on March 10 at 9:00 am PST / 12:00 pm EST / 5:00 pm UTC. The post details the success of the recently implemented matchmaking changes, showing that overall the matchmaking update results in teams with similar skill levels competing against each other.

The post also talks about changes to air efficiency and weapons, including pulse rifles, which have become the best PvP weapons in Destiny 2. It also states that starting with Lightfall, the team will start making regular changes to balance of seasonal and off-season weapons.

With Lightfall fast approaching, there is still a lot to discover in Destiny 2 Season 19. You only have a few weeks to complete the Destiny 2 Revision Zero exotic quest ahead of Lightfall and the introduction of the Destiny 2 Strand subclass into the space game in the end of february.
