Galax Nvidia GeForce box suggests RTX 4070

It seems Galax knows something about the RTX 4070 that we don’t, as promotional images for the Nvidia Geforce GPU are making the rounds online. We’ll probably have to wait a bit for the official launch, as the RTX 4070 Ti has just been in the spotlight. However, the images can guarantee that a mid-range option will appear and could provide cheaper access to GeForce tools like DLSS 3.

The race for the best graphics cards is turning chaotic, and the RTX 4070 has yet to hit the track. The closest thing to a mid-range green gear GPU right now is the Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti, and we’d say it’s more of a high-end GPU in mid-range garb. Naturally, we (and many other enthusiasts) are counting on the RTX 4070 to save the day, and new leaks suggest it’s on the way.

Videocardz noticed that Galax accidentally released promo images of its RTX 4070 with an illustration of the box and a glimpse of a special white cover. Before you get too excited, it’s worth noting that the card’s packaging is contradictory, as it actually says “RTX 4070 Ti” on the side. That could mean the front panel design is actually a typo and not the other way around, but it’s likely we’re looking at an unannounced GPU.

This doesn’t appear to be the first time Galax has shed light on an unannounced GPU, as a boxed RTX 4050 was spotted during a presentation last month. However, some of the company’s glitches are simply a bug, as it previously had to fix a typo on the RX 4090 Ti, which involved the SKU appearing.

In terms of specs, the RTX 4070 is set to use the same AD104 GPU as its Ti sibling, a card that’s effectively a canceled RTX 4080 12GB model. The optimized chipset is said to have the same number of CUDA cores as the RTX 3070, along with 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM and a 192-bit memory bus. It also has a TDP of 250 W and therefore consumes less juice than its integer counterpart.

While the above is for a custom RTX 4070, previous out-of-the-box leaks suggest that unlike the Ti variant, the Founder’s Edition will be a thing. It’s probably best to take the initial information with a grain of salt, as Nvidia has been known to change its mind at the last minute. However, the RTX 4000 series needs a true mid-range champion, especially if the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT arrives this year to close the competitive pricing gap.
