Skyrim mod gives Dark Brotherhood quest a complete Hitman overhaul

The Skyrim mod breathes new life into one of Bethesda’s most famous old RPG quest lines. The Dark Brotherhood quests are undoubtedly one of the most beloved in Elder Scrolls games. Now the creator of some of Skyrim’s best mods has brought Hitman and Agent 47-inspired voice acting to its opening, plus immersive sims like Dishonored, adding even more ways to deal with Grelod the Good while we wait for the arrival. of Starfield.

Ask players which stories from The Elder Scrolls series they think of the most, and the Dark Brotherhood will surely act as the leader every time. Stealth Assassin’s Guild creates some of the most exciting and compelling moments in a Bethesda game. However, her initial quest in Skyrim, in which you were sent to kill an abusive and cruel matron named “Grelod the Good” who tormented the children of Honorhall, always seemed a bit simplistic by comparison.

Enter modder JaySerpa introducing the Innocence Lost quest expansion mod for Skyrim. Players now have several potential ways programmed to kill the malevolent matron instead of just attacking her, which JaySerpa likens to the various methods used in Hitman games. By talking to Grelod and the children, you can learn more about her and her habits, unlocking a number of “opportunities” to deal a killing blow.

For example, you might overhear a conversation and discover Grelod’s tendency to retreat to his chambers for a sip of his favorite wine, perhaps the perfect potential to put his poison abilities to good use. Alternatively, after learning his current wishes, one can lure Grelod out of the orphanage and into a secluded area where a simple push might be enough to get the job done.

If you don’t want to get your hands dirty, there’s actually a completely alternate path that’s very reminiscent of the “non-lethal” variants of Dishonored. After collecting evidence of Grelod’s child abuse, he is able to arrange for Riften’s guards to arrest him. However, it is not an easy process; after all, most of the guards won’t like to just walk into the local shelter and put her out of her mind. It’s also worth noting that while this can complete the quest, if you don’t complete it yourself, you won’t be able to join the Dark Brotherhood as a whole.

JaySerpa demonstrates many options in the video below. Along with a proper bald figure wearing a black suit and gloves for the occasion, they also offer some glimpses of some of the Easter eggs included in the mod. There are custom animations for certain deaths and other characters’ voice reactions to all possible outcomes, as well as other clever gags. JaySerpa laughs: “I really overdid it haha.”

If you’re ready to unleash the full potential of your deadly prowess, the Lost Innocence quest expansion mod can be found on Nexus Mods. You’ll also find more of JaySerpa’s work here, including the Skyrim College of Winterhold expansion, which makes the School of Wizardry more of an educational experience, with plenty of lessons on various Skyrim schools of magic.
