What sets Nightingale apart is a procedurally generated set of Victorian-style magical worlds and a roguelite map system backed by a post-apocalyptic origin story set in a parallel universe.
While Nightingale’s Early Access release has been delayed, a new release window is already on the horizon. During this time, the developers have been generous in providing us with information, providing us with tons of blog posts and videos on Nightingale’s progress. We’ve got a lot to learn about the Victorian survival game, so here’s a roundup of everything we know about Nightingale, which just might end up being one of the best PC games out there.
Nightingale Release Date Speculation
The Nightingale Early Access release date is currently scheduled for the first half of 2023.. Initially, the game was supposed to be released in early access in 2022, but in August 2022, the developers announced the postponement. One of the main reasons for the delay was the decision to upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.
For now, Nightingale remains exclusive to PC. You will be able to buy the game on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Some tips from the Nightingale’s Summer Game Fest 2022 gameplay trailer: Staying full, dry, and well-rested should be your priority. Given that we’re talking about a crafting game, this probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise, but yes; Chopping trees and chopping rocks are the main gameplay aspects of Nightingale. Another major discovery in this trailer is the world maps that affect world generation.

In Nightingale’s alternate reality, humans have lived with magical “fairies” for centuries. During this time, people learned how to use magic and also created a magical town called Nightingale. This city has portals that serve as gateways to other worlds.
Unfortunately, the calamity known as Pale has befallen the realms. Scattered across various kingdoms, the survivors now attempt to return to Nightingale, believing that the city is the only place the Pale can stand.

Travelers in Victorian Nightingale will be able to explore the fairylands in first person. Described by the developers as a “networked world with a shared world”, players won’t get stuck on a single map, but rather travel between worlds using mysterious portals.
Based on all the trailers and development videos we’ve seen so far, Nightingale’s gameplay includes the following mechanics:
- Gathering (wood, food) and mining (stones, minerals)
- Create not only weapons and tools, but also maps of the kingdom.
- Kitchen room
- Construction of large-scale colonies
- PvE battles with small enemies, as well as terrifying giant bosses.
Nightingale mode for single player and PvP
On the official website, Nightingale is described as a PvE game, which means that players will not fight other Realmwalkers in PvP mode. However, there are plenty of opportunities to team up with others, as Nightingale plans to support six to ten players per server.
While you can join forces with friends and random players through Nightingale’s co-op system, you can also play Nightingale alone. During a Discord Q&A in July 2022, the developers explained that their intention was to make the game manageable in single player, but also warned that it would create a “challenging experience”.
Nightingale Kingdom map system
One of Nightingale’s most notable features is the “kingdom map” mechanic that spawns the game’s procedurally generated worlds, enemies, and resources, helping you find a destination that fits your current needs. As explained in one of the developer blogs, the new world maps are obtained by crafting, that is, using “magical ingredients”.
In their Realm Cards video, the developers give several examples. If you want more enemies, you can use the Hunt map. If you don’t like the night, you can use a card that prevents the sun from setting. As stated in the gameplay trailer, using certain combinations of revealed cards can result in additional world-shaping effects.

Nightingale is the first game released by Inflexion, the studio created by former BioWare CEO Aarin Flynn. The development team consists of more than 100 people, including industry veterans from BioWare, Ubisoft, Capcom, and other companies.
