Destiny 2 Iron Banner gameplay suffers from frustrating issues

Last week, Destiny 2 launched the Stronghold of Iron Banner mode, bringing Cabal turrets to the popular multiplayer game mode. But while players generally found the event amusing, it also revealed issues with Iron Banner’s overall meta and gameplay grind.

Early on, players were frustrated with certain aspects of the game, which initially sparked a discussion about whether Destiny 2 Iron Banner’s summary screen after a match should include K/D. It became a bigger problem. . The bottom line is that Titan players can use their Ward of Dawn ultimate to capture an area, preventing players on opposing teams from capturing the higher performing areas in a Control-inspired game format.

However, players were also disappointed with Destiny 2 Iron Banner’s overall progression. In this season’s Iron Banner, Bungie introduced a shader called Iron Countershade. The shader gives Sentinel’s armor the effect of chain mail. Players can earn it by resetting their Iron Banner rank twice. However, this can require 60-80 matches, even with the XP boost provided by Seasonal Armor. Since test matches can last up to 12 minutes, this can add up to 16 hours of game time just for earning a shader.

In the past, Iron Banner used to hang around for weeks when players could earn double experience by participating in Crucible events. This allowed them to quickly rise through the ranks of the Iron Banner. However, since that was not the case this time around, players looking for rank rewards feel like they are working hard at the task.

Once players realized they were going to fight, they thought it would be much more efficient to “throw” Iron Banner matches, allowing them to quickly collect XP. Since players earn XP just by playing the game, logging in and letting your opponent win as soon as possible has proven to be one of the most effective ways to earn XP. Therefore, players use LFG features to find other players who actively participate in the game mode to win a shader.

These events have led to various memes and music videos highlighting the issues. A clip posted on Twitter it even shows players from opposing teams in Iron Banner using multiplayer emotes together.

There are also complaints about the current weapon meta, with Dead Man’s Tale and No Time to Explain dominating Destiny 2’s best PvP weapons.

While Bungie has responded to criticism of the state of PvP by introducing Ranked Crucible in Destiny 2 Season 19, the company still has a lot of work to do if it wants to match the competitive appeal of other popular FPS games.

Iron Banner ends tomorrow and won’t return until the end of the season.
