Razer RTX 4090 gaming laptop has screen-changing superpowers

Razer is gearing up to launch a new line of brilliant gaming laptops powered by Nvidia RTX 4090 GPUs and 13th Gen Intel processors. While the Razer Blade 18 is designed to bring portable power into battle, the Blade 16 has a stunning mini LED display that’s actually two monitors in one.

Navigating the sea of best gaming laptops can be hectic and infuriating at times, especially if you’re looking for versatility. Of course, if you buy an ultra-specific machine like the upcoming Razer Blade 18, you’ll get something that can probably replace your bulky desktop PC. However, if you enjoy gaming at higher resolutions but want a lower-spec native display for high-speed 1080p esports gaming, you’ll often have to choose between the two, which will compromise the experience.

Meet the Razer Blade 16, a high-end solution featuring the world’s “first” dual-mode mini LED display. Rather than stick to a specific native resolution, settings can switch between 4K 120Hz and 1080p 240Hz, meaning you get two types of panels in the same gaming laptop chassis.

Some gamers may not have a problem lowering the resolution on a 4K display, especially if you don’t want to boost frame rates at high frame rates. However, we always recommend that you adjust your game settings to match the characteristics of your display, as this will prevent image degradation and negate the need for scaling. The ability to also switch between two different refresh rates is also a big plus, as even the RTX 4090 mobile GPU won’t be able to deliver enough frames to satisfy 240Hz in all scenarios.

In addition to the unique switching superpowers, the Razer Blade 16 and 18 use the same mini LED technology and can be a great replacement for OLED. We’re talking 1000 nits of brightness, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and HDR 10 support, so performance should be on par with organic LEDs.

As mentioned above, both models feature an RTX 4090 mobile graphics card paired with an Intel Core i9 HX processor with 5600 MHz DDR5 memory that serves as the icing on the cake of the spec sheet. As always, big power comes with big expense, and the base Razer Blade 16 costs $2,699.99. The Blade 18 will set you back just over $2,899.99, but you’re missing out on the dual-mode display that makes us so happy.

The new Razer Blade Duo is scheduled to go on sale in Q1 2023, so be sure to check out the benchmarks and impressions.
