Nvidia is reportedly preparing two new desktop graphics cards, and they could be the RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070. The duo will likely use a stripped-down AD104 GPU, the same 4nm Lovelace setup as the RTX 4070 Ti.
The race for the best graphics cards seriously needs an entry-level contender. Even the card featured in our Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti review looks like another high-end GPU, not a mid-range gladiator. The green team says last-gen RTX 3000 variants are still part of the current-gen family, but choosing Ampere over Lovelace means missing out on important new features like DLSS 3.
Fortunately, while Nvidia has been slow when it comes to desktop graphics cards, it looks like it’s gearing up to fill the gap. Sources close to Wccftech say that the company is preparing two AD104 GPUs, with mass production expected to start next month.
Specifically, these two builds will use the AD104-250 and AD104-251 dies, both setups look very similar. For context, the RTX 4070 Ti uses the AD104-400, so we’re looking at a much smaller version of the GPU. Hopefully that also means we’ll get a proper mid-range Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics card sooner rather than later, as the performance gap between it and the RTX 4080 should be even bigger.
As with all graphics card rumors, it’s best to take all of the above with a grain of salt. Nvidia is known to have changed its mind on specs, and AMD’s Radeon RX 7800 XT and other RDNA 3 cards could affect their plans. If Team Red manages to get the entry-level GPU up and running first, we could see the RTX 4060 appear instead of its upgraded sibling, a move that will help combat both Intel’s Battlemage and the new RX 7000 GPUs when they hit the scene. . . .
