Steam published the winners of its player-selected awards, and while Elden Ring took the overall position of “Game of the Year”, Cyberpunk 2077 was awarded in the “Most Improved Games” category.

Compared to No Man’s Sky, Deep Rock: Galactic, Dota 2, and Project Zomboid, the deluge of updates and fixes since Cyberpunk 2077’s launch seems to have been enough to propel it to victory over its rivals.

The game has seen a bit of a resurgence since its launch thanks to the release of an improvement patch and the extra excitement generated by the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime series streaming on Netflix.

The leap in user experience for Cyberpunk 2077 likely began in February with the launch of the Next-Gen update or version 1.5 for PC gamers, which fixed several bugs and even added free DLC to the game.

In September, when developer CD Projekt released the Edgerunners update accompanying the launch of the anime series (which itself was highly acclaimed by fans and critics alike), it once again hit its all-time high. The game’s producers continue to work on the title, and another expansion, Phantom Liberty, is also planned.
