I Played 400 Hours Of Halo Infinite Multiplayer: Here’s Why I Quit

Last year I was very excited to play Halo Infinite on PC when it came out. I’ve never had the opportunity to play a new game in the series with a keyboard and mouse, as it was an Xbox exclusive during my prime Halo years. However, while Halo Infinite is currently the most played multiplayer shooter in my Steam library, at nearly 400 hours, I’ve barely touched it in three months and counting.

Although I’ve left Halo Infinite behind, the main game is still the most fun of all the FPS games since Halo Reach. There is something that draws you in with the simple gameplay yet complex skill set. A friend of mine, who I’ll call a “die-hard Spartan”, used to play competitively, and I quickly asked him how to improve his game and improve his K/D ratio. With his guidance, it seemed possible to reach a new level of skill, and it was exciting.

I soon knew the cards like the back of my hand. The first match was generally great, although Recharge has a bug with B and C’s line of sight. Any match that takes place in the lanes or in the Behemoth is usually a good time if the team is on the same wavelength.

However, after these first weeks cracks appeared. My group started switching to new games. It happens, especially with free PC games, but the start of the exodus coincided with the launch of the campaign. In a truly bizarre set of circumstances, the launch of the campaign broke Big Team modes for the entire holiday season. Additionally, weekly challenges continued to require players to complete achievements that were only available in the Big Squad. Soon it was just me and the devoted Spartan. He still had a look of amusement at this point, but it didn’t last long when the thieves looked up.

Thankfully, aimbots that auto-target enemies are rare in Halo Infinite, but wallhacking isn’t. For those who don’t know, it gives the user an X-ray view of anyone coming around the corner, so they know exactly where and when to shoot. Sure, pro gamers go around corners and keep their finger on the trigger the whole time, but with enough contact it’s easy to see if the player who just knocked you out before you’ve had a chance to react was a trick and not. just one accurate shot.

Worse, when I was playing the game, there was no way to report cheaters. Community feedback is useful for exposing wrongdoing, but it also has more positive implementations in games, such as congratulating teammates who save your skin with a quick like. The fact that nothing exists here is disturbing.

I was willing to forgive those shortcomings if the second season was any good. He started this summer and focused heavily on free-for-all modes – a big mistake. These have always been the least popular modes in Halo and are said to be used as a testing ground for raids in future battle royale games. My trusty friend didn’t bother to buy a season pass and frankly I don’t know why I did either. I left after three weeks with just under 400 hours.

It has been like this for a few months, but for a few weeks the common campaign has been made available to everyone. I’ve since been back, and while it’s still brilliantly fun (there’s nothing more fun than mistaking a clumsy boss for a big hammer while standing on different doors), I’m not surprised to report that it’s riddled with bugs, like the inability to spend Spartan. Core Points for updates or audio issues that interfere with Discord calls that otherwise work fine in any other game. The middle of the season didn’t impress either.

To fix anything, the first thing you should do is spend some time removing the game’s built-in cheat protection feature that doesn’t work, and just spend some money applying Easy Anti-Cheat. I understand that means giving more money to Epic Games, since games like Fortnite are competitors in the free-to-play market that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is targeting. However, the Easy Anti-Cheat site lists Xbox Game Studios, the publisher of Halo Infinite, as one of its partners. It’s clear that Microsoft has a working relationship with Epic Games, and if that means getting rid of aimbots, wall crackers, and other violent scammers, it’s well worth the investment.

Once a proper and robust anti-fraud solution is in place, we will also need funny Game modes are back. There’s so much potential in Halo Infinite’s upcoming Forge mode that I’ll probably stay away from that game mode until launch when I can get back to game nights. I mentioned earlier that Halo Reach became an integral part of my gaming habits when I was a kid. twenty years. You’d think most of it was spent on Big Team, but it was actually a game with wacky game types. Grif Ball, where two teams of hammerheads play a mixture of football and hockey, will always be fun, simple and chaotic. Now imagine that with a grip and you’ll understand why I want it back.

It’s not just a Grif Ball though, and thankfully Forge mode can bring some familiar faces to life. Among my favorites is Rocket Race, where you and a friend race around the tracks in a mongoose and a second player blows up the car by shooting rockets. The creators also experimented with obstacle courses where people race towards the finish line to avoid picking up the letters that stand for HORSE. Maybe Halo Infinite will add them to the ranking playlist.

So there may be better times on the horizon and it’s not too late for 343 Industries to address the underlying issues I’m having with Halo Infinite. Will the game be able to restore the player count to over 250,000 players on Steam? Of course not. However, by fixing the broken stuff and revisiting the fun and silly modes that made the old Halo games so memorable, you at least have a chance to increase your popularity by embracing your more creative side.
