The first benchmarks showing the performance of the Intel Core i5 13400 have appeared, and it seems that the processor is performing well. In fact, it seems that the cheap Raptor Lake chip is being shipped with an overclockable 12th generation processor: the Core i5 12600K.

The Intel Core i5 13400 has a good chance of being the best gaming CPU for those looking for the best value for their next CPU. With six performance cores, four efficiency cores, and 16 threads, it should quickly handle just about any game you run and have enough power to keep up with traditional GPUs.

Getting down to business, PC store nguyencongpc tested the Core i5 13400 against a suite of applications including Cinebench R23 and PugetSystem (via WCCF Tech). While no games are part of its testing regimen, these results give us an idea of just how powerful the chip is.

In Cinebench R23, the Core i5 13400 fell behind 12600K by 1.8K in the multi-threaded test, but narrowed the gap in the single-threaded tests to just 0.1K. Meanwhile, in PugetSystem Premiere and Photoshop, the Raptor Lake renderer either matched its Alder Lake predecessor or was within the margin of error.

We’ll likely hear more about this new processor from Team Blue in the coming months, and hopefully some gaming benchmarks will show up closer to launch. For now, as always, it’s best to take these preliminary numbers with a grain of salt.
