Generation Zero Update Adds Top-Secret Experimental Weapons

A new Generation Zero update has been released today that adds new high-tech military equipment to the survival game. Each of the three new weapons are familiar weapon mods, adding some cool new tricks to the way they’re used. Developer Systemic Reaction has also overhauled how the system works, making unlocking new equipment easier than ever.

Three new weapons: the experimental .44 Magnus, the experimental KVM 89 submachine gun, and the experimental Älgstudsare rifle. You can get them randomly from rivals and reapers, as well as completing base defense missions.

The new .44 Magnus is known as the “shrapnel cannon.” It is a classic Magnum-style revolver, firing shells that explode into shrapnel when they pass through enemies, creating what Systemic Reaction calls a “shotgun blast behind your target.” Hitting robots with sharp objects from other robots is a treat that never fails to please.

An experimental version of the KVM machine gun plays with the idea of continuous firing from a heated gun barrel. This new SAW doesn’t work well when the barrel is cold, but the longer you shoot, the more its accuracy, effectiveness, and damage will increase. However, there is a limit – the system reaction says that you absolutely do not want to overheat this weapon. It’s a machine gun and a chicken in a portable briefcase.

Finally, there’s the experimental Älgstudsare, an “artillery cannon” that coats each fired bullet with a special slow-burning compound as it passes through the barrel. This coating changes the aerodynamics of the ball so that it flies a bit slower. The fun part is that the longer it stays in the air, the more energy it stores, making it increasingly deadlier the more it hits its target.

The schematic tree has also been redesigned in this update. Instead of searching for blueprints for new craftable items in the world, you’ll earn schematic points and XP by crafting items or completing various in-game objectives, and spend those points on five trees. You’ll also be able to earn schematic points for certain microphones in the open world, so the research and discovery element is still there, now it just fades into the background as players can focus on exactly what they want to unlock. .

The full patch notes are available on Steam, and the patch itself weighs in at 17.3GB on the platform.
