Paramount+ unveiled at its CCXP22 panel the cast of its upcoming film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, an adaptation of the world’s most famous tabletop RPG featuring Chris Pine, Hugh Grant, Justice Smith and more. But the truth is that the Brazilian public was much more excited by the presence of other famous people who appeared in an unprecedented scene revealed to the public at the event.
I’m talking about Hank, Eric, Presto, Sheila, Diana, Presto and Bobby, characters from the Dragon Cave cartoon! When Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was first leaked online, rumors were already circulating that beloved 80s cartoon characters would appear in the movie as an easter egg, but the scene that was shown shows that their participation is much more than a simple egg. And this excited not only the creators, but also director John Francis Daly.
“I knew that these characters were popular here in Brazil, I even know that a car commercial was shot with them, and this reaction is what rewards us for what we have done”he said during the panel.

Trying to return home in the Dungeons & Dragons control panel
The scene begins with Hugh Grant’s character, whose name has yet to be revealed, announcing the main event, with a huge surprise at the end and a huge maze of shapes in the center of the arena. A group of mercenaries led by Bard Egin (Chris Pine) are then brought into the arena via an elevator in the center with another group of characters on one side of them and Hank’s group and the dungeon master’s apprentices on the other. If that were the case, we might consider it an “Easter egg”. But the scene continues.
When all three groups of contestants are on stage, another elevator reveals what will be chasing the contestants through the maze: the displacement panther! A panther-like D&D monster with 6 legs and two tentacles, and the ability to create a false image of itself to fool its victims. No big deal for Hank’s group and their magical weapons, right? Wrong. All three groups are unarmed (except for Sheila. Apparently no one realized that her cloak was her weapon of power). They run into the maze with the panther chasing them, trapping unsuspecting competitors.
In the middle of the maze, there are still chests with weapons inside. Bobby finds a chest with an axe, and the druid Dorik (Sophia Lillis) finds a sword, but when the barbarian Holga (Michelle
Rodriguez) goes to open one of the chests, she stumbles upon Mimic, a chest-like creature trying to swallow her, and Doric saves her. The scene ends with Chris Pine being cornered by a preempting panther, not knowing what to do.
We don’t know if Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will still appear in other scenes, but seeing them live for the first time gives hope that if Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a success (and someone it manages to resolve all legal issues between the copyright holders), perhaps we will someday see more students of Dungeon Master on the big screen.

A charming thief and a group of adventurers embark on an epic quest to find a lost relic, but things become dangerously unclear when their paths cross with the wrong people. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is scheduled to release on March 13, 2023.
