Nvidia has apparently discontinued the GeForce RTX 2060 and GTX 1660, two of the most popular graphics cards on Steam. The Super GPU options would also benefit, but the GTX 1650 and 1630 seem to hold up.
The Nvidia RTX 2060 and GTX 1660 aren’t the best graphics cards in terms of raw performance, but they’re used more by gamers than other GPUs. RTX 4080. The GeForce RTX 3060 leads the way, but it’s still impressive to see two 2019 cards holding their own.
Unfortunately, recent reports from BoardChannels indicate that the duo has been discontinued because Nvidia wants to change its “product sales strategy” to produce the RTX 3000 (via Wccftech). While it’s not uncommon in and of itself to drop old product lines, the green team’s RTX 2060 12GB upgrade is selling out pretty fast.
Production of the RTX 2060 and GTX 1660 is expected to continue while AIB supplies run out, and BoardChannels says that some vendors have already liquidated their stocks. Unlike the latest card, the GTX 1650 and 1630 aren’t heading to the GPU retirement home yet, but there’s a chance the 1660 sisters will do the same in the near future.
RTX 4000 GPUs could be the next big thing, but Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang previously said that the RTX 3000 is still “part of a new family.” In other words, the Ampere will likely serve as a cheaper alternative as long as Lovelace is on top, or at least until rumored RTX 4070 and RTX 4050 hit the GPU scene.
