Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki said the FromSoftware team will continue to create “more and more interesting games” and thanked George RR Martin and the FromSoftware and Bandai Namco teams for their work in creating Elden Ring. The fantasy game won “Best Game of the Year” at the 40th Anniversary Golden Joystick Awards, with Miyazaki taking the gong from hosts Laura Bailey and Troy Baker.
Miyazaki begins his acceptance speech by thanking “everyone who played and supported Elden Ring.” He notes that “FromSoft’s determination to make games and the incredible circumstances that allow us to do so are due to our players, and we can’t thank them enough for the support they’ve given us.”
He also gives a special mention to Game of Thrones writer George RR Martin, who worked with FromSoftware to create the overall world, lore, and mythos of Elden Ring early in its development. In addition to being one of the best open-world games in recent years, the attention to its world and characters is immediately noticeable. it was possible without this myth.
Miyazaki calls George RR Martin’s work on the game “incredibly empowering” and says it opened up new possibilities for the team, thanking him for writing. He goes on to speak of his “deepest gratitude and admiration for every member” of the teams at FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment for his work.
In closing, Miyazaki has one last message for Elden Ring players. He says, “It seems strange to me to say this while receiving such a prestigious award, but we intend to keep making more and more interesting games, so I hope you continue to have high hopes for us.” Of course, it’s fair to say that FromSoftware always manages to do something unique with each new release, but it will be interesting to see if his words mark a more visible change in the spirit of games like Uprooted, released in 2018 for VR. .
