There riot game made major changes to League of Legends European Championship (LEC). The American game developer decided to introduce teams and players from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Turkey for the next season, in fact the league was officially renamed. League of Legends EMEA Championshipbut the acronym will always remain LEC.
Riot also changed it. “Spring Splits” and “Summer Splits”. and added “Winter Split” and LEC season finale. The three splits will still feature 10 teams, but they will consist of 3 phases. In the first, teams will play each other in a single round-robin round with single matches, in the second, eight teams that have passed the group stage will be divided into two groups and will fight in double Elimination and Best-of-three modes. Finally, in the third and final stage, the four teams that qualified for the playoffs compete in the top five to determine the division winner.
Each winner will receive a seat in the LEC Season Finals, an end-of-season tournament bringing together the top six teams from the EMEA region throughout the year. More details will be provided later.
Ten teams will take part in these competitions: Team BDS, Team Vitality, MAD Lions, Fnatic, Astralis, SK Gaming, G2 Esports, Excel Esports, from next year there will be Team Heretics, who bought the place previously owned by Misfits. and KOI, who teamed up with Rogue. All these changes will come into effect in 2023.
