Celebrating its tenth edition, Festival Games for Change Latin America hosts the first public debate on public policy towards the gaming industry in Lula’s government, engaging game developers and the creative industries on educational and environmental issues. The event will be streamed live from November 18 to 20 and will culminate with the fourth edition of the Pitch for Change competition, which will award games that aim to create social change.

“For the first time in Brazilian history, a presidential election has brought art, culture and games together as a major political issue. This is no coincidence, as the current government is pursuing destructive policies in the social and scientific fields, against culture and the environment, in addition to deregulating gun control, destroying the Amazon, and radically dismantling public education.” , says Gilson Schwartz, president of Games for Change Latin America. “The pandemic has also brought structural racism to the fore, which is why we are proud to celebrate Black Consciousness Day in Brazil at the closing ceremony following the announcement of the Best Games of the Year award,” adds Schwartz.

“Lula Play” was published by a group of independent developers at the start of the campaign and integrated into the program of the president-elect. It is hoped that the new policy will restore the country’s investment in social policy, education and culture, enhanced by games targeted at children and youth.
The festival will also feature the winners of the Cross-Cultural Impact Jam, co-hosted by New York-based Games for Change and game creation software company UNITY, held in the first week of November.
New digital games such as “Master Lemon” (Pepita Digital), “PoN” (Ilex Games), as well as non-digital games such as “Macunaíma” (Coletivo Lúdico) and “Purposyum” (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime), creators and proposed as part of innovative pedagogical practices will be presented.
Sessions on the Internationalization of Social Impact Gaming Projects will bring together leaders from the Latin American industry and regional chapters of the Games for Change network to evaluate new collaboration strategies. The festival also highlights more philosophical approaches in roundtables on games and education, allegory and gender issues. Eric Zimmerman, a well-known writer and longtime member of the G4C scene, will give a closing note.
