Intel Meteor Lake CPUs may have fewer cores than 13th generation CPUs

Future Intel Meteor Lake processors are expected to offer better performance than current generation Core processors, but rumors suggest that the blue command could slightly reduce performance. In fact, 14th generation chips may have fewer cores than equivalent Raptor Lake models.

Intel’s flagship Meteor Lake processor will be Only 22-core package as per ECSM_Official, including 6 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. Thus, the alleged Core i9 14900K will have two fewer cores than the current best Core i9 13900K gaming CPU.

However, any power loss due to underperforming cores can be partly explained by the included improved architectures powering the 14th generation Intel Core processors. While it remains to be seen if they can make up the difference, at least we know that these processors are the first to be built using the more advanced Intel 4 process.

Since Intel’s Meteor Lake chips will use the newer LGA-1851 socket, you can expect to trade in today’s best gaming motherboard for a newer, but hopefully not much more expensive model.
