After flying over the Draconic Lands heroes of Set 7 with great success, it’s time for TFT to turn the page. Teamfight Tactics, the anticipated new chapter of Riot Games’ PvP strategy aiming to renew meta and game dynamics over the next 6 months, is coming: Attack of the Monsters!
The previous Set built a very fun castle with increasingly overwhelming mechanics amid the leveling up of dragons and plants. But with this update, the developers tried to change the cards on the table, creating new mechanics and more and more technical combinations.
Partly a “new” starting point for TFT, Set 8 promises to be packed with innovation and everything to explore. We had the opportunity to review. New in Set 8 of Teamfight Tactics: Attack of the Monsters! Here are our impressions before it aired on PBE and here are some.
We remind you that the new episode will be available in the Public Beta Environment from November 15th and will be on the official servers at the beginning of December, closing the 6 months spent together in Draconic Lands.
In Spatulopolis, heroes and monsters challenge each other in a battle for the salvation of humanity.
The theme of Teamfight Tactics: Attack of the monsters! partly inspired by the Star Guardian atmospheres, different skin lines and visually inspired by the scenarios of the World Cup theme, it brings together what has been seen at this year’s events. The world is overrun by kaiju monsters who take the form of Runeterra villains like skyscraper-sized Vel’Koz and Urgot, and it’s up to Pengu and our heroes to defeat them to defend humanity and peace. They are superheroes and superstars for the citizens of Spatulopolis as effectively as Marvel heroes on the streets of Manhattan.
Projected aesthetics for the transition are two new skins for the mini-legends Tocker and Sprite, as well as a new “Poro Ranger HQ” arena. In addition to Baron, Grizzle and Whisker, available at three rarity levels as usual, have also been added to the mini-legends roster. Instead, we find Lux among Chibi with her ultimate and her Star Guardian form, which she will present herself to the public in the trailer. There will be a class-themed playground skin in the style of Star Guardians, along with special animations to arrive at the playground. Later, during Set 8’s stay online, Chibi Ahri will also arrive with a Star Guardian Skin.
The arrival of Heroic Implants is game-changing
Such an impressive Set is not only due to aesthetic innovations, but also and above all. mechanical and systemic. In addition to the classic ones, heroic implants are also included in the game. Each grants the player a champion to add to their ranks and a buff that activates when that hero is deployed. There are no new classic systems, but the total number will remain very high as some of the old Sets return. Stretch plants were excluded entirely, given the presence of 116 new epic plants.
The developers say it’s possible for Heroic Implants not to appear in a match, but the odds of that happening are extremely low.
Watch out for threats!
Another innovation is threats. These are eight units that cost 3,4 and 5 and are Cho’Gath, Rammus, Velkoz, Aurelion Sol, Bel’Veth, Zac, Fiddlesticks and Urgot. They have better stats than lower units, a unique passive ability, occupy a single spot on the game board, but lack synergy. It is important to use them as stand-alone cards to supplement the weaknesses of certain compositions and save them from various synergies.
For example, Vel’Koz is a low-damage magical champion, but attacks the opponent with the highest DPS and stuns them. Aurelion Sol is a level 4 champion that deals a lot of damage and burns enemies, limiting their healing potential. Bel’Veth is a very powerful AD carry that scales nicely with physical damage elements. Finally, Zac is the tank with the highest life value and splits into two mini Zacs when defeated.
With the end of the dragon season, the dragon also disappears. dragon treasure. Each PvE boss gives the player an anvil from which he can choose one of three basic items. 5-7 and 6-7. Anvils in stages allow you to choose from completed objects.
Item balancing is all about tactics
There are also major changes to the items. Stats lowered, but base stats increased for champions. According to the developers, this was done to make balancing easier and more precise, and to increase the effect of team compositions, despite the presence of powerful objects.
All magical and physical abilities they now work the same way, without a special item (like Infinity Edge and Jeweled Gloves) they cannot deal critical damage and cannot be evaded by any means. The changes are functional to reduce the effect of luck during fights without sudden dodges or lucky critical hits, whose damage is restored to 140%.
In addition to the critical damage items, others have also been modified so that each fulfills a specific role in the arsenal. Giant Slayer deals more damage to tanks with more hit points, while GuardBreaker reduces the effect of shields. Blue buff and Spear of Shojin reduce mana regen, but offer more extensive stats.
Features and examples
Finally, new features complete the Teamfight Tactics: The Attack of the Monsters innovation series! Anima Squad permanently increases members’ HP when one of the members manages to defeat the enemy. In addition, physical and magic attacks are increased by percentage based on the number of champions with active attributes on the field.
Supers increase the bonus damage percentage of allies at the start of the battle. They are very strong in transition as the bonus is increased by 8% based on the number of level 3 allies.
Hackers are the new assassins as this feature will be eliminated in Set 8. Passive means that in addition to guaranteeing a certain percentage of omnivamps, each unit can use a H4ckerr!m that takes them behind the opposing compound.
Gadgeteens generate random objects that last two rounds of use, no new ones are created if they are not used.
Underground champions scour the slums by committing robberies. Every heist brings loot to the player’s hands. It takes 9 progress points to complete a heist. One per turn, each defeat takes 3 or 5 depending on the level of the feature. Once a heist is complete, you can decide to interrupt it and collect loot, or continue with another heist by improving the quality of the stolen goods.
New rank 5 champions such as Leona, Mordekaiser, Janna, Nunu and Urgot are not missing, each with a new special ability. Leona has the Mecha Prime trait, becoming stronger on the battlefield by merging with two adjacent mecha units. Janna predicts the weather by offering a shield in case of sunshine or creating a hurricane in case of rain. Mordekaiser slams his mace on the ground, inflicting massive AoE damage, transforming the arena into a Blueprint version. Finally, Urgot summons a tsunami that hits enemies and brings random sea treasures to light.
