Batman / Fortnite: Foundation Comic Review

The finale of the six-episode comic-game crossover Bod Zero made clear that the blending of the world of Fortnite with the world of DC comics was far from over, on the contrary: it was just beginning. We didn’t even have to wait too long, and we have another story from this “multiverse” that more or less smoothly follows Point Zero, but also to the events directly in the Fortnite game (which advances the story mainly through movie transitions). and games). between seasons).

Return to the island

In fact, I wouldn’t recommend The Foundation at all if you didn’t have Zero Point on your back. The foundations of the world of Batman and Fortnite Island were laid there, and although the characters of the new comic relate to all this, they explain the main facts in just a few words, which is far from enough to understand the whole context. However, this story also begins with the opening of a mysterious dimensional rift above Gotham City, but this time another rift will open above Metropolis. In addition to Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman or, for example, The Flash, in short and prosperity, the Justice League should take part in the event. Reinforcement can also be found in the script of the comic, which was enhanced by the famous Scott Snyder.

While all sorts of DC villains, led by Lex Luthor, are trying to sneak into the rift in Metropolis, Batman in Gotham discovers that only a suspicious fighter, the Armored Foundation, has infiltrated our rift into our reality (I think the translators didn’t). try to honor his name in order to keep the name of this character directly in the game Fortnite). The pair initially face off in an intense duel, but eventually realize they have a common enemy. Therefore, they make a plan to close the gaps, but do not suspect that in addition to Luthor, they will have to face another very dangerous opponent.

That adversary is, of course, “The Batman Who Laughs,” a comic book character that’s a cross between Batman and the Joker, who had a strong history of parallel universes from the start. In the end, he will turn out to be the most dangerous opponent on the battlefield, and the fight with him will take place not only in Metropolis, but later on the island itself, right at the epicenter of the storm. The result will be several surprises and revelations that will likely form the basis of future comics.

Bar set

In terms of art, the comic follows Point Zero in a similar visual style, perhaps with a slightly more subdued color palette, because so much of this book takes place in our reality. By the way, the workbook has slightly more pages than the standalone Point Zero workbooks, and it also costs a few crowns more. As a fan of Fortnite and the frenzy that the game brings with the interweaving of universes, characters, or brands, I definitely enjoyed the comics, but let me admit that I was somewhat missing the emotional core that the Batman/Catwoman relationship provided in the latest series. It’s just a fairly simple series of battles, nothing more, nothing less.

Of course, in this workbook there is also a code to download bonus costumes directly into the Fortnite game, this time it is the Batman Who Laughs skin and recording screen. So if you want to spice up your game, you can take on the guise of this maniacal villain. As usual, you can apply the code on any platform, from mobile phones to consoles and PCs. The code itself is entered into your profile on the official website of the game.

Zero point like a book

Worth mentioning is also the fact that due to the extraordinary success of the six-volume Bod Zero series in notebooks, we now also have a definitive one-book (paperback) edition. In addition to bonuses like alternate covers, you will of course also find a code to download all the items in the game that were included in the individual workbooks. Since I really enjoyed this series, I can definitely recommend this comprehensive book as a suitable Christmas present for Fortnite fans.
