Euro Truck Simulator 2 will soon celebrate 10 years since the release of its base version. During this time, the game has been enriched with countless updates, improvements, new trucks and, last but not least, seven paid map expansions. They gradually brought us, for example, to Scandinavia, to the Baltic Sea or to the south of Italy. In the latest expansion called Iberia, we are finally heading to Spain and Portugal.

The road is the destination

In many ways, Iberia is the most extensive expansion in the history of the second Euro Truck Simulator. In addition to the size of the Iberian Peninsula, which ranks second among European peninsulas in terms of real size, it is worth mentioning the number of available cities. The new DLC brings 51 specially. Among them, of course, you will find the biggest ones, led by Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Lisbon and Porto. However, due to the overall respectable numbers, you will also visit smaller provincial towns such as Albacete or Tarragona. This was an attempt to add small towns, as was clearly seen in the previous Italian expansion and partial modifications of the old districts. However, Iberia is the farthest in this direction.

You will encounter areas quite rarely.

However, it is still necessary to take into account that the cities function mainly as a backdrop and in reality consist of only a few streets with industrial areas adjoining them. Even from the little that individual cities give you taste, however, thanks to the architecture of the buildings and the nature of the landscape, it is very clear which country you are in. So, while I personally would love to see cities show me more of their back alleys, thanks to the amazing emphasis on partial details, I’ve always enjoyed a few lanes and intersections as I gradually discovered new cities. The second Euro Truck Simulator, like its sister American Truck Simulator, has always demonstrated the efforts of the developers from the SCS Software studio to reliably handle the transport infrastructure of a particular country or region. Iberia continues in this direction and offers a range of detailed rest stops, gas stations and toll booths which, together with the maximum speed limit, vary slightly depending on whether you are currently driving in Spain or Portugal.

The main role, of course, is played by the road network itself. In the case of Iberia, you will have to rely almost exclusively on the complex motorway network connecting towns and cities. You will encounter areas quite rarely. So if you love off-road driving, the Iberia is not for you. However, the authors cannot be blamed too much, as this is simply related to the real state of the road network of individual countries, which SCS Software is only trying to embody in the game as accurately as possible.

Colorful and interesting landscape

Although it may not seem like it at first glance, driving on the track, at least in the new DLC, certainly does not seem monotonous. The developers spent a lot of time processing the environment. As a result, the landscape often changes depending on where your current chosen job takes you. The relatively arid central regions differ markedly from the coastal regions or, for example, the much more forested northern ones. In the case of the Iberia, I don’t particularly find fault with the monotony of the landscape, which sometimes bothers me in the aforementioned American Truck Simulator. You will also enjoy the several different ports you will use, especially when you need to move to another, more distant country.

Iberia brings together 22 new companies with different specializations.

In a few seconds, you and your truck will be able to move smoothly, for example, to England. In the world of the game, the companies that give you contracts are also an important aspect, and they differ depending on the country you are currently in. Iberia is bringing in a solid 22 new companies in a variety of fields. Of course, the new expansion also benefits from incremental improvements to the base game. Recently, it is worth noting the launch of the official multiplayer and the new lighting system, which significantly improved the graphics.

I should also note the extremely varied range of cargo, the addition of lookouts, and the ever-increasing number of tractors. In short, on the second Euro Truck Simulator, thanks to the regular supply of updates and improvements, the said era is not entirely recognizable, except for a few details and technical limitations. In addition, with each new map expansion, developers can improve the quality of the environment a little, as the latest addition called Iberia proves.

Consideration

Euro Truck Simulator 2 – Iberia

We like

  • Large territory and more than 50 cities
  • Beautifully designed environment
  • The presence of various monuments and interesting transport facilities
  • Emphasis on realistic transport infrastructure handling and preservation of landscape character
  • Thanks to ports, you can quickly get to other distant countries

it worries us

  • Minimum area
  • The cities still function mostly as backgrounds and the game doesn’t let you explore them.
