Sometimes it’s impossible to see everything that’s going on around you in the heat of battle, but luckily there’s now a Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord mod that gives you an RTS-style bird’s-eye view. The RTS Camera mod allows you to command units from above, giving you the situational awareness you would have in a strategy game like Total War: Warhammer III.

Created by modders LiZhenhuan1019 and Lkoinw, RTS Camera is actually a free camera mod similar to the one you’ll find when using Bannerlord’s photo mode. Instead of being locked into your character’s point of view, you can raise your camera in the air and look down, then give orders to your formations.

After installing the mod, you can enable free camera mode during battles by pressing F10. However, there’s a catch: Your camera’s range of motion is determined by your party’s tactics and reconnaissance skills. The more you develop these two skills, the more you can move the camera, which creates an interesting twist.

When the mod is enabled, you can press E to link the camera to a unit, then press E again to control it. At the start of each battle, you need to open the settings menu (by pressing L) to make sure the “Control Ally After Death” option is turned on; this way your units will not be under AI control if your character is knocked down.

You can find the RTS camera mod on the Steam Workshop or Nexus Mods. Check out our list of the best Bannerlord mods for more ways to up your game.
