oculus quest 2 continues to offer popular series for Meta standalone VR headsets. While many big hits like Iron Man VR launched in November, we’re slowly taking a look at what’s coming to VR gaming in 2023. First introduced as Ghostbusters VR, developer nDreams and publisher Sony Pictures Virtual Reality (SPVR) have officially confirmed that Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is coming to VR headsets in 2023.
Start in Meta Quest 2, Ghostbusters: The Rise of the Phantom Lord takes us to San Francisco with a new team. Here we will catch ghosts alone or with up to three friends through the cooperative campaign. While you can experience it on the best VR headsets, it will also be on PSVR 2, Meta Quest Pro, and possibly the upcoming Oculus Quest 3.
While we still have a lot to learn about this upcoming story, Sony Pictures Virtual Reality (SPVR) has come up with a new plan:
“In this exciting new chapter in the world of Ghostbusters, players will enter the mix of new characters at the start of their journey as they rule their own Ghostbusters headquarters in San Francisco.
The city’s legendary locations, such as the Golden Gate Bridge, will be brought to life in an exciting and sprawling campaign where players can play alone or team up with up to three friends in co-op to stop the mighty Phantom Lord and his gang of bad ghosts. to create chaos throughout the city.”

In a press release, SPVR confirmed that Rise of the Ghost Lord allows you to “own and upgrade iconic Ghostbusters gear and customize elements of their characters’ appearance.” However, the trailer doesn’t include any gameplay, so we’ll have to wait a bit to see the legendary team in action.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Ghostbusters in VR, but you’ll be forgiven if you don’t remember. Honestly, Sony might even prefer that we forget about Ghostbusters VR: Firehouse and Showdown. Released in 2018, this adventure was heavily criticized by fans and critics alike and has since been removed from the list. With nDreams working, we hope Rise of the Ghost Lord doesn’t repeat the mistakes of its predecessor.
