Final Fantasy XV: Agreement with Machine Zone for mobile spin-offs covered development costs

L’agreement between Machine Zone and Square Enix on the realization of a mobile division Final Fantasy XV basically covered the development costs of the game. This should clarify, on the one hand, what the scope of the agreement is, on the other hand, how high is the investment in the mobile sector and what is the economic viability of certain studies.

Machine Zone is responsible for billionaire hits. mobile systems Like Game of War and Mobile Strike, which grossed billions of dollars each year and lavish marketing campaigns were devoted, including commercials that made their way into the Super Bowl with exceptional references like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mariah Carey.

Machine Zone’s first mobile game in Final Fantasy XV was the mediocre A New Empire, which had a greedy game economy that clearly favored paying users, but now, without fuss, comes another one: Battle for Eosis a free-to-play casual strategy based on microtransactions. In fact, it has already arrived in the sense of launching in some markets in March of this year and now appears to be available all over the world, including Italy (on Google Play for Android systems and in the App Store for iOS systems).

Let’s read the official description to better understand what we are talking about:

Final Fantasy XV: War for Eos is a strategy game that will take you on a long adventure.

You will have the chance to build the realm of your dreams, travel to other realms to collect magical resources and rule your mighty empire together with your friends. You will fight other cartels to defend your kingdom and your friends. But first you must choose the right strategy to win the war, protect the Crystal, and rule the Kingdom.

Initially, the deal between Square Enix and Machine Zone seemed to include only one spin-off from Final Fantasy XV, as A New Empire turned out to have little to do with the saga despite using official sources. However, the quality was very poor, as was the overall maintenance, so much so that some graphical assets were taken from Final Fantasy XIII and replaced with Photoshop.

So Square Enix would only accept a second project for the size of the economic deal, as reported by RPG Site (pecunia non olet). The rights to use Final Fantasy XV for A New Empire are indeed Development costs the entire game. It is unclear whether War for Eos is part of the same deal or the result of a later deal. The hope is that it’s better than A New Empire.
