Australian audio technology company Rode has unveiled a new range of gaming microphones aimed at both Twitch streamers and PC gaming enthusiasts. The new division, dubbed Rode X, will arrive alongside a new virtual mixing suite that could challenge existing solutions like the Elgato.

The Rode X launch lineup consists of two gaming microphone options: the XDM-100 and the XCM-50. If you’re familiar with existing Rode gear, you’ll no doubt recognize the XCM-50, as it’s a condenser microphone that almost looks like an NT-USB. Its dynamic counterpart, the XDM-100, also shares similarities with the Procaster but features USB-C connectivity instead of XLR.

In a press release, Rode says that it has been developing a new line of gaming PCs for three years. Additionally, company CEO Damien Wilson said the brand “heralds in an exciting new era” that aims to “shape the future of streaming and gaming audio.”

Rohde says the XDM-100 and XCM-50 will join other contenders for the best gaming microphones in 2023 and beyond. However, the Australian firm hopes to improve its high-end hardware with Unify, a virtual mixing solution that unleashes the power of digital signal processing and provides many useful streaming tools. The software is included with the Rode X microphones, but will also work with other audio devices and its capabilities are the same as the Elgato Wave Link Toolkit.

Rode is already a force to be reckoned with in the audio tech scene, so reputation alone may entice Twitch streamers and content creators to join. Of course, the performance pudding is proof of that, and while we’re currently working on our Rode X XDM-100 review, we think the dynamic mic packs a decent punch.
