New AMD Radeon The GPU is coming soon to challenge Nvidia, but the red team’s rival appears to have less memory than the RTX 4090. While the RDNA 3 graphics card was supposed to launch with 24GB of VRAM, those specs would now belong to the Navi GPU 31 who will be competing. with the full release of Lovelace.
According to Wccftech sources, AMD Radeon RX 7900XT it has 20GB of VRAM, 4GB less than the RTX 4090. The memory decision is touted as a downgrade, as the card was supposed to be tweaked to match Nvidia’s flagship. The card’s reduced memory specs appear to be coupled with a slightly smaller MCM chip, meaning we’ll get a full-featured version that can compete with the RTX 4090 Ti.
AMD seems to be “very confident” that the new Radeon RX 7900 XT specs will remain the same as the RTX 4090, especially when it comes to raw rasterization performance. The company also believes that the GPU will have significantly better ray tracing capabilities compared to current generation RDNA 2 graphics cards.
Radeon RX 7900 XT could be in Nvidia’s RTX 4080 release date window as AMD announces that RDNA 3 will launch in November. There’s a chance the gaming PC giant will release two GPUs, but whether we’ll see a more capable 7800 XT or 7950 XT next month remains to be seen.
Naturally, we have to get our hands on the RX 7900 XT before we know how it really compares to Nvidia’s best graphics card. However, while our RTX 4090 review sets the bar very high, AMD could beat the Lovelace leviathan with aggressive pricing and power efficiency.
