Get ready to start over, because the Generation Zero Dark Skies update is now available. In addition to adding a new aerial enemy that unleashes terror from above and a speedy moped to escape from, this patch includes a new option to completely reset the Scandinavian open world game. The patch comes with new paid DLC that adds even more high-speed vehicles in the form of motorcycles, as well as a free Halloween event.
Dark Skies is named after a new enemy: the Soviet firebird and the first Generation Zero flying enemy capable of retaliating. This fearsome vehicle can be armed with spring-loaded cannons, howitzers, Teslacoil spikes, and bombs. You’ll find it in the northern part of Østerthorn, but make sure you have the equipment to destroy it if you go there. Developer Systemic Reaction says the journey is worth it: the Firebird carries some valuable loot that you can pick up if you drop it.
However, the biggest update to Dark Skies is the new revision of the game. Until now, the world of Generation Zero has remained unchanged: after your first character, all new games you start will take place in this world, and the quests that the first character will complete constantly. The patch adds a new option to start a fresh new world, so you can replay the campaign from the beginning.
Previously, you could have up to four characters and one world. Now you can still have four characters, but you can have four separate worlds if you want.
Dark Skies also adds a new tuned moped, a huge improvement over the bikes added in 2019. The patch also introduces a weapon skin system with five new free weapon skins that can be collected from burning opponents you’ve defeated. .
Generation Zero also participates in seasonal Halloween entertainment. Every time you defeat a vehicle before November 2, there’s a chance it will drop a part of one of four new cosmetic packs. These include Nightmare, Slasher, Vampire, and Arctic Halloween costumes.
If the moped is still too slow for your liking, try the new Bikes DLC. It includes three different models, each with its own features and control capabilities. You can get it on Steam for $6.99 / £6.99.
