AMD Radeon 7900 XTX could be a real competitor to Nvidia RTX 4090

The introduction of AMD RDNA 3 graphics cards could lead to an unexpected increase in pixel count that will lead the fight for Team Red’s next GPU series, the Radeon 7900 XTX. The “XTX” branding hasn’t been used since the days of ATI, but its potential return could be driven solely by the power of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090.

After earlier reports that AMD’s RDNA 3 launch could see two Radeon GPUs collide with the RTX 4000, it’s becoming more and more likely that those graphics cards will be the Radeon 7900 XTX and Radeon 7900 XT. While the latter is said to contain less VRAM than the RTX 4090, the former can match the flagship RTX 4000’s 24GB, but with slower GDDR6 memory.

All this according to Benchlife sources, but Videocardz was also able to confirm these rumors. Regardless, until AMD makes an official announcement, we should take these reports with a grain of salt. We won’t have to wait long, though, as the RDNA 3 unveiling is scheduled for November 3, where we expect the company’s best graphics card to be on display.

While we should expect both Radeon cards to improve performance across the board, AMD RDNA 3 can drastically improve Radeon ray tracing performance. However, at this point, it’s still unclear if that will be enough to catch up with the Nvidia RTX 4090 or if it will have to wait for graphics cards with 3D V-Cache to close the gap.
