This Nvidia RTX 4090 is the most power consuming RTX 4000 GPU ever.

Nvidia RTX 4090 hungry for power, but there is a version of the RTX 4000 graphics card that requires more juice than the others. Designed by Colorful, the GPU in question has an integrated water cooler and impressive RGB capabilities that contribute to the monstrous needs of the PC gaming side.

According to the Colorful RTX 4090 Neptune specs, the Nvidia RTX 4000 custom GPU has a TDP of 630W (via Videocardz). To meet the card’s power consumption, the AIB partner recommends using a 1000W PSU, which means even the best PSU can fail.

For context, the Asus TUF model tested in our RTX 4090 review has a TDP of 450W, so it goes without saying that Colors is up against the best graphics card competitor. However, an AIO GPU cooler consumes more power than a traditional fan setup because it will continue to run even when your system is idle.

It’s worth noting that most RTX 4090 cards stick to the baseline TDP, so you don’t need to buy a more powerful and expensive power supply. However, the high specs on Colorful’s custom GPU could help look to the future, as future Nvidia flagships like the RTX 4090 Ti could have similar requirements.

So if you want to build a better gaming PC and get even higher frame rates than ever before, you might want to consider buying a new power supply. Sure, it’ll hit your wallet, but at least you won’t be caught off guard buying a custom RTX 4000 graphics card in the future.
